Convoy S2+ Desert Tan Available Now!

Saw on BG @ $1.37 each

As mentioned, the stainless switches are now available for individual sale. The black coated steel switches are just not rugged enough long-term which is why he’s going to anodized. Simon is limited to what coatings and processes he can have done in his area and keep cost reasonable. I hear you but you have to realize that 95% of the people who buy this light will never attempt to disassemble the switch.

That reminds me…Simon sent me a picture of the tool they use to install and remove the switches. Unfortunately this is not a commercially available tool The factory that makes his hosts made this tool. I’m showing it just to give people an idea how they’re installed. This is not a switch design that is easy to remove and swap as emarkd could surely tell you.

These custom pliers grip the metal outer switch housing with even pressure so that it can be threaded or unthreaded without scratching everything up.

I’m thinking I may try thin needle-nose pliers with a rubber jar-grip between the switch and pliers to assist in grip and avoid scarring. Maybe there are better methods?

I figured something like that had to be used after trying to remove one of them.

J-Dub74, to sum a little bit so that I (we?) can keep this “on track”, can you confirm that, so far, the “Convoy S2+ Desert tan” version will have:

- DTP copper MCPCB is standard

- AR coated glass is standard

- XPL-HI in a smooth reflector (SMO) as standard (will OP reflectors and XM-L2 be available by request?)

- Biscotti driver as standard(will the 3/5 mode be available by request?)

- Black anodized aluminum switch as standard (no rubber switch, right?)

- Black pocket clip as standard accessory (new version?)

- Lighted tailcap ?? (I got lost about this one…)

  • 18350 battery tube as optional

Sorry, but as a newbie I need to keep some things on track among all the more specific and technic/technological aspects! :person_facepalming:
Please check what is right and wrong! And thanks for all your work along with Simon! :+1:
You are all guilty in my flashaholism!!! Eheheh

MascaratumB, I will attempt to answer all you questions…

- DTP copper MCPCB is standard Yes

- AR coated glass is standard Yes

- XPL-HI in a smooth reflector (SMO) as standard (will OP reflectors and XM-L2 be available by request?) Yes and Yes

- Biscotti driver as standard(will the 3/5 mode be available by request?) Yes, Yes

- Black anodized aluminum switch as standard (no rubber switch, right?) Yes

- Black pocket clip as standard accessory (new version?) Yes the black clip is included but there is no new version clip yet

- Lighted tailcap ?? (I got lost about this one…) No lighted tailcap

  • 18350 battery tube as optional Yes, but seperately

It’s hard for me to keep track of all this too but I do my best.

Is there will be short tube for the Clear also?

Yeah I get that JDub, I’m not the normal customer. Most of us around here aren’t  And I’m good with that. I was just saying that if something more robust happened in the future I’d be all over it.

Those pliers are awesome. I’ve definitely never seen anything like that. My method is basically what you said, but I actually keep a pair of pliers with rubber heatshrink tubing shrunk down over the jaws for that sort of work. Its generally very easy on things and I rarely scratch something, but it happens…

Why isn’t the link in OP ? I can’t find link.

Thank you so much! You answered all my questions J-Dub! I know it must be hard to keep all on track but you are doing a great job on that and on letting us know how things advance! :+1:
I will order it from AliExpress store when the second batch arrives, but for any modification I’ll be wathcing this thread!

Once again, thank you! :+1:

Because it’s not yet for sale on the aliexpres convoy shop only on BG and FT.

That pair of pliers looks like it still might be dizzy from the time it spent in the lathe! Looks like a pair of needle (long) nose pliers that had the padding stripped of the handles, then mounted in a four jaw chuck to spin them down to the right size.

Not a difficult task for our talented machinists. The limiting factor is the size of the through hole of the chuck.

Can you make a special order for S2 tan WITH a lighted tailcap? Thanks for answers

I have tried it a few times but a lighted tail on a S2+ with metal switch cover is not very impressive, for me it is not worth the parasitic drain that comes with it when the light is off.

I totally agree with you, there’s no way to make a bright illuminated stainless switch on the S2+…
The space is simply too thin, what makes the rubber boot bright is their larger surface for light diffusion

Yeah. I tried it. By the time I got it bright enough (to compare with dim trits) the resistance was below 1K (on an H17F driver). It messed up the switch timing at that point.

The parasitic drain would be very high too. Neat but not that great.

In the thread I can’t remember, few days ago someone posted picture of slightly sanded metal switch letting through much more light. I’ll try finding it.

How much power does it drains when off? Is it really a significant drain?

To get something that can actually be seen it is easy 2mA, draining a 18650 in 2 months, smaller batteries much sooner.

I’ve got a tracking number. Is it time?

Happy Independence Day BLF!
