What is the best brightness modes for a zoomable hunting flashlight (single tail switch)

Indeed.
However i use a different tactics: i usualy observer with a H@K monocle and then the bugger is in a shooting range :bang
Using several kind of taming too,: have 4 whisles , a robo-rabbit and a some other stuff of that ilk.

This reminds of of an old hunting joke called ” No sir” I will be prolly banned if i tell this here so lets keep the good tone.

I actualy skin some of them, especialy winter time : but most go to “equarissage”: since jackals here eats everything they usualy carry plague, worms and other nasty stuff.

I made several great carpets from them over the years but ppl usualy dont like photoes like that, we should make a dedicated BLF hunting topic for that.

 I just LMAO and Mitko knows why.

But Mitko I guess they would be good in kebab… No one would ever know

LOL…

I suggest something simple like the first one but with moonlight mode and a red LED. Supposedly animals have a hard time seeing red light so you are less likely to spook them in the pre-dawn hours on your way to your blind or stand. Civilians can’t hunt during the hours of darkness here in CA anyway so for me it’s about getting into the field w/o scaring off the deer (red light) and then finding and dressing them if the shot doesn’t happen until just before sunset.

Now I am getting to understand some weird results in this pole:

1. There are one group of hunters that will never mount flashlight on a gun or use it for hunting at night. They just use them for walking or blood tracking.

2. There is second group of hunters that will mount it on weapon and use flashlight at night for night hunting.

- So for the first mentioned group of hunters even the candle will do and this heavy aspheric flashlight is not for their use anyway and you should make them smaller aspheric flashlight than that cause the larger aspheric light is the less flood mode it will have.

- For the second group of hunters that will really hunt with your light it would be good that you listen to them and consider that high mode we talking to you.

Final conclusion: I guess that there is only small group of hunters(at least here on BLF) that actually use flashlight for hunting and that is ok… Just made flashlights for them while myself Mitko and few other guys will use your host on our way.

pm…pm… pm…

look at firmwares like Bistro, that are user configurable with settings like people want it

Thank you sir… We accept your suggestion

I’m firmly in uminarium iaculator’s second group - I want at least 70kcd and 750 lumens, under 350 grams total incl batteries and have a 1.5 hr runtime on high. I scope mount and use for rabbit shooting the plague proportions we have here. My maxtoch 2x is grunty but almost too heavy for my use - where my convoy c8 dedomed XML u4 does an excellent job out to 150m

This light is a bit heavy to mount it onto a rifle… The lens is 64mm diameter, very large, with battery the weight is over 750 gram , 2000 Lumens over 1000 meter range, 4 hrs on 2000 lumens , 6 hrs on 1000 lumens . This light should be carried by a belt. Only single cell flashlight can meet your demand , i think

The maxtoch 2x is very very popular in new zealand for hunting as it has the 1000m+ range but can be scope mounted as well - 2k lumens sounds nice but the weight is the biggest issue

IF this is meant to be a weapon mounted light , I would say 1 mode. High.

On top of that, maybe offer a second mode group to put it on, something like five quick presses. offer High, med, lo, strobe, SOS. If you get lost in the woods at night, would be nice to have lower modes to extend run time, and strobe/SOS to catch attention from possible cars/planes/people.

Weapon mounted lights only need one mode, high. You should not be pointing a gun at something you do not intend to shoot

Indeed,

However, if there is a will, there is a way too

And its quite stable too

The B158 has the right size for mounting on a rifle.

Nice riflescope Mitko !! :+1:

10x m8, well it german  Blaser is also german , rofl

About B 158

It fits great this way, and the mounting spot doesnt affect the rifle stability, it could even be used as a stand as you can see

On mine I was never getting claimed 350kcd. I don’t know if I am the only one? It was 230kcd light so I just resell it.
Modded Supwildfire reflector goes over 300 kcd and it is even lighter than that.

And yes there are no light like modded aspheric light.

This light may be bit heavy for mounting as well as 1504 but if you need 400-500 kcd light(when modded of course) than you’ll manage to mount it somehow and shoot of the bench.

Mitko I see you use Vortex rifle scope in second pic.

I found their diamondback series(3,5-10x50) is very similar in performance to Leupold VX2 but it is not night vision addon capable.

Their crosffire series is not so good but it is night vision add on capable(nite site and similar stuff).

EDit:
Mitko I suggest you open Hunting thread as leading hunter here. This is really missing on this forum.

+1

luminarium iaculator

A host form will be great! That HI emitter will look terrible in the zoomie , believe me- nobody here likes a HI emitter paired with zoomie

Mitko, please explain. I love aspherics, and the xhp 35 HI. Why don’t they work well together?

Thanks for the diagram Lexel! I have 2 flashlights with Bistro and never seen that diagram before. Very helpful. And I agree, the Bistro firmware is great since it has so many user configurable settings that appeases to so many of us flashlight enthusiasts.
