Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

With the buck driver the light should be more efficient (make less heat) at the same current with the 70.2. The lower Vf means lower input wattage with the same (or greater) lumen output.

In theory, yes, remains to be borne out in a light…

Well there won’t be a big difference in heat, probably less than 10% difference (ratio of Vf of the two emitters).

Been away for awhile. Did the shorter body ever get made for the L6?

has anyone using 18650s on their L6, i just ordered mine. The only 26650 i have is from imalent DN70 but i have plenty of high drain 18650s. Can the spring make contact with smaller diameter of 18650? I just printed a battery sleeve to fit the 2x18650. The light is not yet in my hand so maybe someone can share some infos?

Yes they have!

You can get them here Page Not Found - Aliexpress.com

I dont see why they should not work, the springs are in the center of the flashlight and the tips are not any bigger then usual.
Just make sure the batteries are not longer then 70mm each.

Nice use of your 3d printer  I need to get my printer working again…

what is the short tube use for? does it work with single 18650?

Thank you, i will be using a non-protected 18650s if that is okay with L6.
Yeah 3D printer they are usefull arent they

No the stock L6 will not work with only one cell.
The short tube is for people that mod in different drivers/emitters. Or have a couple of 26350 cells to put in

Yeah non protected cells should be around 65mm long, it is the protected ones that are close to 70mm.

Just be aware that using cells in series should be done with care. Make sure they are the same capacity and at the same voltage level when you use them.
I am not the best at this subject so i hope someone that can explain better does that

Thanks for the link! Can you recommend a 23650 protected cell for them?

I ordered two 18650 to 26650 converters a few weeks ago. https://www.fasttech.com/product/1228900-18650-to-26650-battery-converter should get them today. I would recommend them as a must buy when you want to use 18650’s as a backup power source. Will try them in the L6 tonight and report if any issues.

Do you mean 26350? There’s only one to choose from. Little purple ones.

The only place I know that has them is Fasttech. They are $8.24 for a pair, but beware that shipping to the US was about $36.

I was able to get some from MTN Electronics, but Richard only had a small batch. I think he’s trying to get more to sell on his store.

Wow…
You aren’t the only one who’s been away for a while. I saw your post and thought “What is this person talking about?”. I was still waiting for confirmation that the listing was live! :person_facepalming:

When I have a chance I’ll add the link to the OP and a few other places it belongs. Thank you Tjhosan! :+1:

Are you sure? Beacause i am pretty sure you knew about the short tube about three moths ago when you added the listing to the L2/L6 mod thread :stuck_out_tongue:
We even talked about that the next batch would be cool with the tactial ring hehe

I’m happy to report that the 18650 to 26650 battery tubes from FastTech work perfectly! They are high quality, and they fit perfectly in the L6 with no rattle. Thanks to the rubber o rings. The batteries I used are Protected EVVA 18650 3500’s. ( Panny NCR18650GA’s) The batteries fit perfect in the tubes. Electrical contact was perfect too.

:person_facepalming: :person_facepalming:  :weary:
I repeat and emphasize my “Wow” statement though now for different reasons. At least Dale can blame the meds. All I have is that it’s been rough the last few months. I can’t believe that at least for an hour or so I forgot all about that! Time for bed… Good night my friends. Hopefully soon I’ll have something to say that I didn’t say a few months ago…Sheesh!

ah i see, thanks.

I have printed a 18650 to 26650 adapter before on Imalent DN70, it fits snugs without rattle but i need the exact dimension of the L6 inner diameter, the rubber o-ring also look like a good idea i’ll try that on my next 3D printed adapter.

!

Yes I do.

I’m using 3/4 inch PVC plumbing pipe with tape to make it fit inside.
No problem so far.

Finally got my L6, what is the typical current draw at the tail with stock setup?

This my initial ceiling bounce test (turbo)
Haikelite MT07 : 415 Lux (Samsung 18650 30Q)
Convoy L6 : 280 Lux (Samsung 18650 30Q)
Imalent DN70 : 238 Lux (Imalent 26650)
Ultrafire C8 XML2 : 62 Lux (Samsung 18650 30B 4.35v)
Nitecore EC11 : 78 Lux
Fenix UC30 : 69 Lux

all using freshly charged batteries.

Just measured current draw at the tailcap 5.4A using clamp meter is that normal for stock L6?

Can the Convoy L6 safely run 4.35v 18650 batteries?

thanks.
