imaplent dt70 and dt35, why no one mention anything here

I have 4 Imalent's now... well 3, I gifted one of them.

I have both the DN35 and the DN70 also have the DM21T.

I take the DN70 almost everywhere I go and , all three get a good amount of use. So far I had only a very minor problem with my first DN35 that was fixed in just a few seconds no tools required.

I think they are great lights. For the size you get a huge amount of light, and yes the Turbo even pretty short but it was never designed to hold that setting for a long period of time.

They company is still very young and they are going to have issues fro time to time. All new lights usually have their fair share of issues.I can name some major brands that have been around a long time that have just totally embarrassed themselves. No need to call them out because it was issues no one expected based on calculations. The issues came up in real world use.

If I begin to have problems with any of the three Imalent light I have I will of course post them but, so far I have none to post.

I do however have one thing to post about Imalent. After testing, I suggested including a spare USB cover. I got an email not long ago stating that they agreed and that future batches would be shipped with a spare USB cover. Not sure when that will begin but, my point is that when I contacted them they seemed pretty open to suggestions.

I will updated if anything changes.

Some people avoid them because they have a high rate of defects compared to other brands. The worst part is if you do get unlucky and receive a bad light, Imalent will not take care of their customers. You may as well throw it in the garbage and buy another brand because it’s a total loss.

I just got my DN70, what a lovely light to hold in hand the size is just perfect and still edc-able. btw this is my first 26650 light now i know why some loves a single cell 26650 flashlight :partying_face:

I printed a 18650 slevee so i can use 18650s cell just in case i need it, since i only got 1 26650.

well it was unintentional, i have that blue by coincidence. :smiley:

The voltage meters is somewhat dissapointing, mine reading 4.05v while the real value should be 4.2v charged using ISDT SC-608 and also confirmed with my multimeter.

Yes there’s an error in the voltage reading. Fortunately it’s nearly constant so you can correct it easily. For mine it was 0.15V near full charge and 0.17 at lower voltages, say from 4 downwards.

So, what is the word on the DT70? Are there later batch version that are more reliable? It's one of the lights I have been eyeing for quite some time now and I am still thinking of getting one. From what I hear, it is a gamble though if we get a dud.

I haven’t heard anything about these lights in months. I know they updated the disc springs to coil springs in the DT70 and DT35.

So I should ask the sellers if they have the updated version with coil springs then. From what I read, turbo mode does not last very long at all before stepping down to 2800lm so that is something I should consider too. I also have to ask myself how bright before a flashlight is bright enough! I'm still amazed at my L6 and really, that should be enough light for anything I would ever need other than showing really.

I don’t think this is necessary because they stopped selling the old ones and all the current ones use springs. This change was several months ago. I guess you could verify it if you wanted to.

I usually buy lights of ebay and make them an offer for a good deal, but you just never know what the sellers are selling so I may as well ask them. I got two Nitecore EA81's for a real steal on ebay and they are top notch.

Why do you want it when there are better lights out there for a cheaper price?

Any recommendations? My Q8 should be coming soon, but I need one lummen monster just for show off purposes on special occasions

The Astrolux MF01 at $80 is quite impressive. I think the xpg2 version measures 12k to 13k lumen. The best part is if the driver fails, it can be replaced by an aftermarket Texas_Ace fet driver running NarsilM from Lexel which boosts output to about 18k lumen! The Nichia version is a few thousand less lumen on turbo but thats because it’s not as efficient.

The big difference between the MF01 and the DT70 is the beam shape since the MF01 uses tir lenses and has less bright spill lighting.

Haikelite also just had a Group Buy on their new MT09R which is a reflector style light using 3 x 70.2 and a Texas_Ace based driver with ramping. It’s not using NarsilM, but it’s similar. These put out 15k and were costing $125.

I was hoping for lights that could use protected batteries. Had a look at the Astrolux MF01 before but specs clearly state unprotected batteries but it really looks good.

You would need to swap to different springs in the carrier to fit longer cells. Some people have done that to fit protected cells. Maybe cutting them shorter would work? You just need to reduce their collapsed height.

Keep in mind this light draws a lot of amps so you need good cells with protection circuitry that can handle at least 5A to 6A 10A each.

Are you sure about this? I thought max current was more like 9A or so.

Edit: nah, quick calculation resulted in closer to 6A. (I used to calculate using specified 12000 lumens, now I took 9000 lumens for 219C, which results in this difference)

Let me think. Lexel tested 16A, but I believe that was at 8v, right? It’s a 2S2P battery carrier. So with 2 cells that’s 16A each. 4 cells would be 8A each.

Yeah, I was wrong earlier. I was thinking 4A each and 5A to 6A to give some overhead. Now I see it’s double that. So you would want protection circuitry that can do about 10A per cell.

So probably the GA or MJ1 from Liion Wholesale or the GA from MTN Electronics. There’s not too many protected cells that can do 10A.
