Hey chooma, is the ui ramping only or does it also have presets (low, mid and high)?

Hmmm…… I ordered a Nichia in hopes that it wouldn’t produce as much heat as the xpl hi.

Only ramping, I cant find any presets.
As it ramps to its highest, it blinks, release button, press and hold to go back down. Been using a 30q and a 18350 purple efest.

:+1: thanks for answering. Too bad is doesn’t have presets though, ramping is nice and all but a pain to estimate run time while on the road.
I still might get one if it’s easy enough to reprogram the driver and if it gets available for EU customers.

I am pretty sure that the light can be programed to allow for different levels instead of ramping.

Put new purple 18350 efest at 4.20 in the green nichia ran it until I couldnt handle it anymore 33 seconds.
Checked cell voltage at 3.93 cell was warm. Checked it again 7 minutes later and it is now stable at 4.03
Cell is still luke warm 12 mins later.

Anyway cool lights I dig’em.

The nichia 219C should actually pull the most current and produce the most heat of the three options.

About the narsil FW, I think it does have traditional mode groups as well as ramping. See here for a description of the UI: New BLF GT Narsil M Cheat Sheet for v1.2 NEW VERSION

Yeah, you should be able to re-configure that driver to dang near anything you want, even thermal step down with manual setting. Tom worked very hard to get everything possible in it…

dekozn,

WJ is correct ….

Tom E Narsil M link

Narsil is configurable …. Don’t what version is in the D4 but there should be some useful info in the manual from this link.

Heres a tip to changing settings.

After holding the button down for 8 seconds it goes into menu mode. It will do 2 quick flashes which is only to get your attention, then a single flash and a pause, this is setting 1. Then you can press the button once to switch from ramping to modes and it will blink once.

Then it will do the fast double blink to get your attention then 2 longer blinks. This is setting 2, etc…

So don’t count the first 2 fast blinks, only the slower blink afterwards. The 2 fast is only to get your attention so your ready to count. This is what confused me at first.

You can then let it go through and finish all 7 settings or just hold down the button to exit the menu early.

The cheat sheet, from joechina, on Narsil.

Is the D4 one of those lights that takes a code book to program?

Only if you don’t like ramping.

OH Crap! (post count!) :person_facepalming:

(Edit: Don’t understand, it said 15,000 with the cheat sheet, how did it go backwards?)

Yes, but once you set it, there’s no need to mess with it.

Just look at the options and decide what you want. Ramping or modes. If modes, how many. Do you want modes to go from low to high or high to low. Do you want moonlight. Do you want memory. It’s not too hard. I love the default ramping mode myself.

Triple click and it blinks out cell voltage.

Quad click to lock out.

The special modes like strobe, sos, bike mode, etc… are double click, pause, double click again. So it’s pretty hard to accidentally go into them.

Narsil is great once you get a feel for it. I want all my lights to have it! Lol.

Can someone who has the light confirm this. Just don’t want to get surprised that they changed the firmware somehow.

Do you mean i can try that trick with the lights i just received?

If the light is using Narsil, then what I said should be true.

There are a few different versions of Narsil, which means the menus might be a little different, but it should be pretty much the same.

Maybe we should wait until we know which version of narsil it’s using before trying the menu stuff.

I just tried it and I got no blinks.
But those damn nichia really heat up the whole body but more so the head….Love it.

4 quick clicks gives lockout dont know how to get out of it but i did.
3 quick clicks battery voltage.

I was in a mode that was stuck in low mode would not ramp either way. Dont know how i got there but i got out somehow.

I just did 4 quick clicks waited a few seconds then clicked and held and i had momentary at the highest brightness. Then i did 4 quick and it gave 2 quick blinks and i was back in ramping mode.

Time to recharge….i think the Aspires will be the choice in the 18350 D4.

How hard do I have to study to get my D4 to just turn on high?
