UltraFire SK98 switch replacement

Mmmkay, been touting with BanL in this regard recently via PM and through KD's thread, his reply got me a bit puzzled.

0K, I can see certain switch assemblies sold together. Here the one to replace/rework:

The main thing here is the white plastic holder diameter, ≈17.1mm. The overall lenght of course is largely dependant out of the spring and the brass prong.

I think I've found a replacement at KD, but hell with the measurements! Let me explain:

Item: DIY LED Flashlight Reverse Clicky Switch 20mm x 24mm for LED Flashlight (5 pcs)

Ooouh yeah! ∅20mm…

Well, I think that's the right stuff. If anyone has something worthwhile to add, say so please.

^:)

Looks similar to the pogo-stick switches I’ve seen on some ’501s and ’502s.

Try any of these?

https://www.fasttech.com/category/1610/diy-kits-parts-switches

Yea i would try Fasttech i have seen similar switches there.

The stainless steel host i bought from KD uses the same switch style.

Can you just reuse the plastic holder and fit an Omten1288(12mmL x 8mmW x 8mmH) in there?
Maybe shim it if necessary?

Just PMed BanL with a link to this thread, let's see if he can confirm that's the right pogo-stick assembly. Indeed it looks like this one from FastTech: https://www.fasttech.com/products/1610/10019067/3962203-replacement-clicky-switch-for-led-flashlight … with copper cap.

My problem with FastTech right now is they're trying to dodge me an UltraFire SK98 refund, they sent me a black Power Beam instead in my last shipment, and dora is asking me to keep that @#$% and accept a price difference refund.

Told her I'll be making a mini-review of the bike light, though.

The 5-pack price is great, too.

Can be done Angler, but I prefer to have the right part.

Good Lord B’Harni Almighty… what a HIDEOUS beam!!

Think I’d run off the road if I had that thing lighting up the path in front of me.

That sidespread stuff is not nearly as bad as it seems in the product page's picture, Lightbringer.

I've already modified it LoL. Check this out:

The plastic headpiece has a sort of reflector type insert. After my first disassembly to put batteries (4 × AAA) inside, I couldn't place the head back over because the reflector insert had rotated a bit, and it was a bit stiff. I resolved by removing the @#$% with needle-nose pliers. With regards to the front plastic lens with slight recesses at each led position… another waste of time I believe. A single flat plastic lens and no reflector would have been smarter, avoiding beam corruption. The beam of standard 5mm white leds is already very tight, nearly nothing to gain with a reflector if at all.

Very simple driver board with long lead leds attached in a cross/square plus center pattern. Small integrated microcontroller unit under a white silicone bead, with an incoming red/blue wire pair for power and an outgoing blue/blue wire pair for the momentary switch. Two modes: ON and SOS. Mode cycle: ON/SOS/OFF.

Have not made measurements, but seems to be driving them at the standard 20mA. 100mA of driving current from 4S alkalines means the stuff can fully utilize them, with a runtime of at least 8-10 hours on a good set. Oh! PWM free I believe.

Well, it's at least half done by now.

Quincunx.

Chee-orr!

Tip thanks. Actually I remember that term from the old days of the GeForce3 and GeForce4 Ti series graphic cards (an antialiasing mode; got a Ti4400), but guess I didn't paid much attention to its actual roots back in those days.

By the way, Chee-orr! is actually a deep bastardization of the main term spaniards use to refer to God: ¡Dios!

I use a stock convoy S2+ one, fitting is not perfect but it works and is way more reliable than the stock one

Aha. I just assumed it was an ancient Barkutian dialect of Andalusian Spanish, nowadays only spoken in hushed tones, which meant something like “Success!” or “Yay!”.

Whups, I meant “¡Success!” or “¡Yay!”.

Hey, you know I can speak “¡umop apisdn!” and “¡rightside up!”?

Ha! I kill me sometimes…

Well, among the fleeting indecision let's say my comrade has agreed to first try this: Mini LED Linterna Tapa Trasera Interruptor Trasero 23mm @ reliability_king

Ought to be reliable.

Hi

I had measured the switch and see this is suitable for you or not.

Plastic holder diameter: 17mm (Dia.) x 11.5mm (H)

Please see this is suitable for your SK98 flashlight or not.

Thank you

Ban

And the dimension of the switch:

14.5mm(L) x 11mm(W) x 10mm(H)

Thank you

There ya go…

Thanks BanL, ordered a pack of pogo-stick sets, they're likely to be welcome sooner or later, seems the switch in the stock pogo-stick assembly is of inferior quality.

Measured the Power Beam driver current input. Starts drawing ≈0.22A to progressively diminish and stabilize at ≈0.2A in a good handful of seconds. Measured also in the 200mA scale of my meter and got ≈200mA down to a gnat's ass below 180mA. Stick with the 10A scale measurement fellows, the 200mA scale's installed fuse current specification is 1A (it's what I had to fix it). ;-)

Emitters' Vf at that current after a little (≈30s) warm up time: 3.25V.
