Luminus SST-40, a N4 BA bin tested

I got my first modded blf light from djburkes. I am very impressive with his works… he solder joint both spring and bypass wire… the one on the left is convoy c8 sst40 dedome… right one is eagtac s200c2 xpg2 s4 dedome…

The tint on the sst40 dedome is very nice. No green… it’s throw like a xpg2 dedome.

Where did they come from for this to happen.

Does anyone have links to a higher bin than whats at KD?

I got them from here.

I don’t remember how I got the link to this store? Thought it was recommended by someone. The price is pretty cheap. Maybe they are fakes or b-grade factory rejects? I have not tryed them out yet. They look genuine but who knows.

I do only single emitter 18650 fet dd builds(mostly aspherics) and XPL V6 with 6A current draw is also to much imho.
New XP-G2 under precoolimator gives even larger beam than dedomed XPL with slightly better lux performance and all that at 3,6A draw which means same total output with even more intense beam to dd XPL and a lot of play on turbo and it can be safely on turbo all the time without any worry. That is important if you need longer runtime scans (driven hunting).

In reflector xpl has greater total output with same or lower intensity than G2 but I would also sacrifice that for good runtime on turbo mode and of course swap it to g2

So when you say “For me the optimal situation is to have the emitter(s) be driven as hard as possible without being too inefficient or risk dying from over-current” that emitter is new XP-G2 and only if thing did not changed on market cause Mitko and few guys reported new change in production process of XP-G2 emitters so I will not claim anything for sure cause things maybe changed now

Could use an LD-3 driver and limit high mode to 6A regulated.

Thanks LightRider. Maybe I missed it but couldn’t see a bin mentioned anywhere.

I don’t see it either. When these came in the mail I had to search my accounts because i did not remember ordering them at all. I don’t know why I would order without knowing the bin and I wouldn’t just randomly search for a store and buy something like this so I have no idea what I was thinking. Weird…

Hi guy, I order some luminus sst-40 led from aliexpress seller (Shenzhen OT-LED Technology Co.,Ltd) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10PCS-Luminus-SST-40-10W-LED-1100lm-Cool-White-7000K-instead-of-CREE-XML2-XM-L2/32804792539.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.vMExnl I ordered two separate order, first order was 2 piece and Second order 20 piece. The first 2 piece is real sst-40 the last 20 is not. here is proof look at the photo. the top 2 is the first 2 piece I got is real, and bottom 2 of the 20 piece is not real. all 20 piece on second order I got is not luminus sst-40. (fake). more like fake xml2 to me! no matter what I try, I cannot DD this led. I only left in M.E.K for 15 min this is what the led turn out. when people say you get what you pay for, now I know is true. I buy it from here because one of the members say is real deal. maybe he got his real but not my. I pay $16.00 for 10 piece x2. This Aliexpress Seller Shenzhen OT-LED Technology Co.,Ltd sell me fake Luminus SST-40!

To me the bottom 2 look real… The top 2 look like some XM die maybe or a clone of the XM. The SST-40 has the little dots in rows and the part that holds the die is silver.

if you zoom in closely you will see the difference in this photo.

The SST-40 has the black line separating the pos and neg metal parts around the die. The two bottom (fake) emitters pictured don’t have the black line.

The SST-40 does have the dots arranged in a square pattern as opposed to XML2 and XPL which have the dots in more of a diagonal/hexagonal pattern.

I think a lot of the lattice bright XML2 clones had the dots in the square pattern. I bet these crooked Chinese vendors are happy that they can again easily offload these fakes since the SST-40 die now looks very similar.

Damn, I will have to see what comes in my order. I have some coming from both places, Kaidomain and Aliexpress. They were cheap and I want to practice de-doming.

I have made three separate order for 5 LED’s from Shenzhen Great Technology Co.,Ltd so far they all turned out to be SST-40’s :

I guess I just got lucky

If you zoom in look closely, yours have a black line my don’t. you got the real sst-40 and got fake sst-40.

Did you get yours from Shenzhen OT-LED Technology Co.,Ltd, or Shenzhen Great Technology Co.,Ltd ?. Your link points to Shenzhen Great Technology but the text says Shenzhen OT-LED Technology Co.

I got from Shenzhen OT-LED Technology Co.,Ltd. “Sorry” I link it wrong! I corrected back already. where did you get yours?

Maybe even fake are as good or better than original ones. Please check them.

I test eight of them so far they all 8 bad!

On my clamp meter fake one read 4.90A and the one from kaidomain 7.71A, same host same battery and same driver.

Sorry to go off the current topic, but can anyone comment on thermal efficiency? Assuming the same wattage, will these get hotter than the comparable Cree?
