New VirEnce MCPCB for E17/E21/119/144/233U

Just stumbled around here to briefly check this out…

Heard good things about the aluminium nano dielectric stuff in the past, to the point of ordering a “nano” MCPCB from FastTech, though MessTech ended up sending me a copper DTP board instead (which was marked as “discontinued” on their site… :facepalm: ). Didn't complained.

Basically it’s just a nano meter thick anodizing/passivation method to create a non electrically conductive surface. What’s so special are the processes to make extremely thin passivated layer and make it solderable. Even though the thermal conductivity is just ~7 W/M.K, the thermal resistance (which really matters) is extremely low due to the super thin dielectric material created.
For low power this technology is superior (cheap, reliable, effective) but for our purposes it’s not the case. We still need same or better material like copper to spread the heat faster.
I read your post somewhere in CPF about this MCPCB. The use of word “Nano” (which already over used as marketing gimmick booster by many chinese products) really turned down people :laughing:
They didn’t even bother to further learn about it. But, I read it Bark :wink:

there is another solution for this LEDs

Use a Cree XPL or XML DTP board, solder the LED+ to one pad and the cathode to the DTP area
for the XPL you need to scratch a bit paint off to widen the solder are for the anode
solder LED- to the star

insulate the back of the star with Kapton Tape or use a host with battery carrier that is isolated from the body

I think Kaidomain.com boards are perfect for that, because their traces are as wide as the pads.

But it still has the same problem as clemence’s PCB. The heat of LED is, according to him, distributed evenly through both contacts,

Interested. I never tried other footprint LEDs because there were no boards for them.
1* and 4* 16 mm is a good choice to start with.

With Cree coming with the NX leds and now Osram with the compact Ceramos led your 16mm board may become more and more interesting for small flashlight use.

The last update was that the proto should be shipped within 5 weeks. That means it’s still 3 weeks to go

Looking forward to those quad boards. Plan to use 4 of them with a quad optic, 16 total emitters, then put a large diffuser over the front to make a high CRI lantern. Host is a JKK36 from Kaidomain.

Will be a nice emergency lantern since it uses 3x18650 for good runtime, and has a built in power bank function in the cell holder. So I can charge my devices with it at night, and charge the lantern with a solar panel during the day.

Ah sorry about that. I changed the privacy policy of my albums…. accidentally in batch. Fixed many but I posted like hundreds of pictures, missed this one too. That was stupid, changed the policy back to it’s original state didn’t fix it. I have to do it manually one by one.
As for the picture, it’s not relevant anymore since the final designs are those in the OP. I’m still making my own test rig so don’t have to always overload Djozz with my test requests.

Yes, I would like to see final product. I enjoy nice pics so when someone says “Eye candy” but the pic is not available that is kinda let down :wink:
