Skillhunt H02 can be found under $30 and they’re the best budget headlamp in my opinion. The H03 is a bit more compact with higher output, can be found for ~34. The best part is that you can easily swap the emitter with the tint of your choice.
The Xtar H3 is a bit more expensive and has active thermal regulation, but i like the Skillhunt build quality more.
Skillhunt H03 really does everything you could ever want a headlamp to do .After owning 3 zebralights and considering myself a zebralight-a-holic, I found the only thing lacking in my collection was an 18650 headlamp .(not that I really needed another headlamp). I can only say I was very impressed .It is easily one of my favorite purchases. Not sure anyone has ever been critical of this light .It seems universally well loved.
Was going to suggest the Manker AAA because it’s tiny, cute, comes in colors and is cheap” 20$”.But if you’re looking for multiple 1650’s I’m guessing a AAA light is out .
Glue on the front SS bezel or the battery tube? I’m not sure about the battery tube I believe it was glued, but for a LED swap in the H03Rs (reflector version) it can be easily disassembled with a torx driver, it goes SS bezel-glass-oring-reflector. MCPCB secured with screws.
I just did a week on the Appalachian Trail backpacking with my wife. We each had a Boruit RJ02 and an Astrolux A01. The A01 was on a lanyard around our neck and was very handy when rolling out of a hammock for nocturnal relief trips. The RJ02 was perfect for evening use when finishing up tasks after dark prior to bed. Since it has ramping, you can adjust the level of light that you want. It also has a USB charger input, since I had a USB charger battery pack with me to charge the cell phone for GPS, I could charge the headlights if needed. We did not use the headlights much, since we were quite tired at the end of the day, and did not need to charge them.
I loaded the A01’s with fresh Energizer Lithium AAA primaries before departure and carried a couple spares, which we also did not need. The A01 works very well as a ‘mouth mounted’ light; tongue, teeth, and lips work together to keep it aimed exactly where you need it. The ‘next mode memory’ UI is not stellar, but it’s an inconvenience rather than a deal breaker.
The best (light related) part of the trip was when the wife asked me where the lights came from and how much they were, and I could honestly tell her: ‘Less than ten bucks each’ and ‘My flashlight forum buddies told me about them.’
When we take our kids camping, I put A01’s in low mode as a nightlight on a wrist length lanyard, ring knotted to the main tent zipper pull and/or in the gear loft.
Yep, I got a few of these, and the nice part is that I can swap out the standard 20mm TIR lens with anything from 5° to 90°, whatever I have in “inventory”. Flood, throw, anything in-between…
Hi. Would you mind doing a short comparison between the Boruit and the WowTac? Anyone having tried both is also invited to give feedback
I’ll use the headlamp for some DIY tlactivities, say electrical connections etc. Do you think I’d notice the non-centered position of the light source of the WowTac for such small working distances?
