My seven year old niece's first flashlight.

My niece, Alice, uses the flashlight in throw-mode to shine it on the floor for her cat to chase.

It's kinda like a laser pointer, but much safer.

That’s a neat little light. Any idea if anything like that in 18650 ?

Good choice.

Great question.

I don't know of any, but I'm not really into zoomies anymore.

Yeah, it just so happened to be the best flashlight I own that is a zoomie and is suitable for Alice.

What's funny is that my sister told Alice that the flashlight is not a toy.

I had to butt in and explain that, yes, flashlights are toys!

No worries man.

I think it looks neat, would be a nice cheap here have this keep it, for no particular reason kind of light.

There was an 18650 version of this called the Aleto N8. I purchased several of them and modded 3 of them a few years ago. One of the smallest 18650 zoom lights around and comes with good heatsink fins. Much better than the small 18650 lights available today.

Unfortunately, the 18650 version of this that I found a few years was only ever for sale from one supplier on Ebay. And though I’ve checked since, I haven’t found that light for sale in at least 2 years.

If I’d known it was going to be so hard to get I’d have bought 10 of them.

heheh
added bonus, with a few sticks you can teach her about light refraction
jut ask her what would happen if you hold a stick smaller then the lens in from of it while on….do it and it is clear light “bends”
(on a larger zoomie this can bedone with fingers but that would block all the light, maybe her pinky doesn’t and that would be even cooler to show her

Strangely enough I also gave my niece a flashlight a few weeks ago, the BLF 348.

She is also around 7.

I think it is ideal for little hands, solidly built, nice tint, not too bright, and aaa’s are everywhere (I won’t let her have a 10440!)

Yes, the BLF 348 is a much better flashlight.

If it were also a zoomie, it would be perfect for Alice.

I’ve had several of these little zoomies myself. Some I’ve modded. Some I gave away. I think I still have one or two of them around. They are a really cheap host, but still a great little light for playing around! I can’t remember if my daughter’s first flashlight was one of these, or a SK68 clone. But she’s a total lumen freak now. She’s proud of the fact that she owns better flashlights than me. Are you Alice’s favorite uncle? :crown:

Her other uncle lives in Idaho, so I'm the only uncle that she really knows.

I tease her a lot, but we get along pretty well.

EDIT: It's funny...

She's allowed to watch some R-rated movies, while my 75 year old mother is easily offended by some most PG-13 movies.

Alice, her mother, and I love a lot of the same TV shows and movies.

I wish I could find more * clean * R-rated movies. I grew up watching horror movies and gory action movies, so I have a high tolerance for blood and guts. But I don’t need to see the R-rated sex scenes or hear the R-rated levels of profanity in a movie. I’m not into zombie thrillers any more, but I still enjoy a good violent death for the bad guys, and it’s hard to find movies that have R-rating that don’t have all the junk I don’t want/need. My wife won’t watch R-rated at all. She also gets offended by most PG-13 movies these days.

Yeah, Alice isn't allowed to see movies with sex scenes or ridiculous profanity.

On IMDB, with most movies they tell you exactly why a movie is rated what it is and my family always checks that out when we watch a movie.

I don't know what we would do without internet access.

Nice gift that one  I guess you’ll be transforming your niece into another light addicted :+1:
In the last weeks I was searching for one like this to give it to my mother, despite I opted to buy a 3xAAA then.

I saw something like this on AliExpress. If the specs are correct, it is a 18650 and even has a in-built charger!

Take a look if you want

I shortened the url manually:

I wonder if it really is High/Middle/Low, and what type of memory it has.

Yeah, I provide the flashlights for the whole family.

Alice stays up late when she doesn't have school, so the flashlight will come in handy when it's dark outside.

Hum, normally these have the 3 modes, that being High-Low-Strobe. I normally find these lights with that configuration; their default specs almost always have written High/Middle/Low.
And, I’m not so sure if these have great quality. Even if the fit a 18650 battery, and have a in-built charger (!!!) I don’t know if they are very reliable! Maybe those that look like the Sipik68 (1 or 3 modes) are a bit better! No in-built charger, but definitely more robust!

Ehehe, I feel the same way! Last Christmas I gave some “3xAAA” zoomie lights (5 modes) to my mom, dad, brother and aunts!
They need that for safety reasons, as your niece, but also for practical ones, like feeding the animals and going to the backyard in the night!
I tried to find a 3xAAA with single mode but couldn’t find one, so I gave them those with 5 modes… Not perfect, but good, still!
I’d like to provide them some 18650 batteries, but as they’re not familizarized with those, I guess I’ll stick with the AAA lights!!

Now I know what to get my 8 yo niece and a 4 yo nephew. I remember playing with my father’s collection of flashlights as a kid. Had so much fun with them.

Alice, you say?

Did you get to decide her name? Or is it just a coincidence?
