BLF GT Proto. Review. Work in progress. update 6.8.17. Post 69. Run time test added.

The weather is terrible tonight in this part of the world so no beam shots. Before I do take them I will have to replace the led as it has a black spot on it which appeared this morning. The cause has not been investigated yet.
Starting with the tailcap.
This picture shows the lanyard strap hole in two different places. The part the hole is in rotates 360 degrees around the tailcap itself. The hole has a diameter of just over 4mm and the width is just under 5mm. Wall thickness is around 1mm.

A view of the top and inside the tailcap. The four holes inside allow the inside of the tailcap to be disassembled.

The three components that make up the tailcap. Everything has well lubed orings on it and should be perfectly waterproof. The lanyard swivel has a nice firm smooth movement to it.

I fell in love with the battery holder as soon as I looked at it but nothing is perfect. the negative springs are on the soft side. I’ll let one of the other members with a light to expand on the technical side of the springs resistance wise etc.
71mm long batteries with these springs should fit ok. Flat top 30Q batteries will work but are not held with a lot of force. The positive button is slightly raised in the holder allowing the flat tops to make contact.
For reliability’s sake I’d stick to button tops.

The ends show the positive spring and negative contacts which make contact with the driver. The spring here is short and strong. There will be no issue with it bending over and contacting the negative contacts.
The opposite end has contacts that allow another battery holder to mate up to it.

The driver itself has a large threaded retaining ring holding it in place. The brass contacts on it are around 1mm in thickness and should never wear out.

And finally for tonight is the battery tube. Threads are square cut. The tolerances they are machined to are in my opinion fairly loose. This could be improved upon to make the threads a tighter fit. Orings sit either end as per a normal battery tube.
The outer thread diameter is 53mm. A C8 will fall through this tube without touching the sides. Styling is plain but fits with the rest of the lights design.

Thanks for the update, :sunglasses:

Thanks for these detailed pics!
Do you think the tube would benefit from knurling?

How sharp is this part? In the pics looks like it needs some rounding on that edge…

When using a shoulder strap I don’t see a problem there. There is a metal connection between that hole and the strap itself.
Or did you mean for handling?

Though I agree it could have a nicer edge.

Edit.
After taking another look that ring looks at that point pretty thing. Could be a weakpoint. However I can’t think of a way to improve it right now.

The shoulder is square but wouldn’t call it sharp by any means. You would have a hard time cutting yourself on it. The weakest point of the hole is the wall thickness, not the width.
With the balance point of the shorty tube up towards the head I’m not sure knurling would be of any great benefit but saying that I haven’t really carried it in anger yet. The longer tube may benefit.
Personally I would not use the light in short form.
I cant get the pictures on the bag to open except for the default one. I have terrible internet connection here at the moment which isn’t helping things.

After another frustrating night with a non existent internet speed.
Tonight we have some night shots. The camera was used with a slower shutter speed than normal so the pictures dont get blown out.
We’ll start with pictures of the tree in the background which is about 120 meters away. No washing on the line this time of the year so no knicker shots this time. :stuck_out_tongue:

Firstly is the Q8.

Monster light. MTG2 at 5 amps.

C83. 3 x C8 reflectors running XML2 leds at 5 amps a piece.

OL Tribute light. LUM 90 reflector, XHP70 at around 11 amps.

Defiant Super Thrower. Dedomed XML2 at 5 amps.

And finally the BLF GT. It does this to you. :open_mouth:

Next are the driveway shots to give another aspect to beam profiles.

:open_mouth: is right! Wow!

 gonna do a cloud-spotting test too? or light up a hill miles off?

Nice shots. Thanks Moose.

Does the tint look that cold to the naked eye?

Oh my God.

Nice beamshots
Ouch so harsh cold that GT, but dang bright
Though I love the Q8, C83 and OL tribute light beams a lot as well.

Wow, wow, wow and just wow!

[Lovely tint of the Q8 though]

Q8? is that the BLF Q8? havent seen anyone posted beamshots of it.

Djozz has posted several beamshots, don’t know exactly which post of the almost 10000!

I’ve Posted beam shots of the Q8 before. Not sure where though.
The tint of the GT is cool and its unknown to me what it is. The GT will be getting a warmer tint in the production lights.
I should of mentioned these pictures of the GT were taken with the black mark on the led. This will be looked into today.

:person_facepalming: and they forgot the pocket clip

Lots of beamshots of the Q8, just check what we posted, it is in the OP
Most of us posted beamshots but it stood out to me here, without even seeing it was our Q8 at first
Can you imagine a nice NW XHP35HI GY beamshot?
Already it is impressive.
