GAW high cri Soraa flashlight modders needed. cost free! You pay actual shipping

GiveAWay?

good questions both. to be clear this was not meant as a sales pitch.

I really do have 20ish lights that are dead or low output that I was/am hoping to somehow at low or no cost to me get shipped out for raw material use for modders in the community.

as such they are (raw material to be modded) units are not to be used for kitchens / details other than 12v mr16 gu5.3. should not matter as half of them are doa.

WITH THAT SAID

I HAVE LOTS OF 100% TESTED LIKE NEW ONES. various types /tints/connections/and beam widths/sizes.

still sorting through types from major construction SNAFU.

please drop me a pm with what you want and I will get back to you.

I just need the heatsinks, optics, and perhaps the LED if they’re still working, and trash the rest. All bulbs will be modified use DC CC connected in single or two strings. Perfect host for 144As

as far as I can tell there is a difference between current and newest. the vivid 3 may very well be their newest but they seem to have lots of non vivid 3 that are current

(I’m not an employee or an expert on Soraa products)

I ended up with a plethora of unsed but tested inventory from a good sized construction Snafu.

I like the way your thinking. any chance that you could help send a few to other modders (maybe as part of your nichia distribution efforts?)

mainly the modder bulbs are free I just want a person or persons to pick up the shipping. as mentioned my intent was to get them turned into flash lights (no need to mod for kitchens as far as I can tell)

for folks who have home projects I will have prices that cant be beat (basically inventory liquidation) blow out prices.

trying to keep the two seperate.

thanks for helping BLF out with the Nichia group buy!

It’s not easy to find good looking ALUMINUM heatsink host at small qty and cheap price.

Shipping them from US to ID and then back to worldwide? With possibly taxes in between….I don’t think this is a good idea for those 20ish non working bulbs. It’s better to divide the collection pools to US, EU, and Asia. If anyone in US and EU willing to do so, I’ll take the Asia distribution.

- Clemence

agreed

ok you have asia distribution (now lets see if ther are any others)?

thanks again.

I don’t know that I could help with distribution but I would be willing to pay shipping costs on a few of the dead ones to see if I can turn them into anything interesting.

That’s the spirit

remember probably the emitters are still good (95 cri) and then those heat sinks are killer. most have a TIR optic so for the price of shipping not bad.

Maybe it is better to just get a list of how many each soul wants who is wiling to pay shipping only, and forget about the complicated node or distribution idea. after all there only 20ish “bad” lights for free modding use.

So who else is in who has note replied or dropped me a note?

A teaser eh? Finally you’re spilling the infos (slowly)
Warm 2700-3000K, 12V, 95CRI…
Only the CCT,wattage and LED gen left to spill

Based on the pictures the TIR looks like a COB optic. I was thinking of trying to make a lantern or other portable light source with them. Maybe a work light. I’ve made a couple really useful lanterns out of old 120V LED bulbs that had drivers die in them.

I’ll send you a PM Ronin.

I’m hoping for medium wide evenly beam from that TIR. The heatsink is indeed vey interesting

Jensen,

I see you are in MD/DC area. I’m also in MD and would like to play with 2-3. I could probably drive by your home, or place of work, or some mutually agreeable location.

Mr.Scott

excellent,

rufusbduck and I have met in person and its a nice added dimension to an otherwise online community.

bump 5 “working” (meaning they are not as bright as the others I have)

i will take a shot at fixing them.

Will see what i can do. ok 3 set aside for you, still putting the rest of the order together.

A PM might be the way to go.

My intent is not so much for folks to “fix” them (a popular reaction I’m finding) but to use them in some hand held aka flashlight like device. My idea is that they might be able to be used for parts (most excellent emitter, way cool heat sink, optics) heck maybe the buck converter driver is usable?

If it turns out we are on the same page, they are yours.

Since these are basically COB LEDs they probably contain boost converters.

I have started to play with the ones I recieved, in my dead ones it seems like it is the LED that actually died, looks like heat damage as the phosphor layer has visible cracks in it. Interesting LED, on the side opposite the emitting side you get what looks like the back of a bare die.

The driver is indeed a boost driver, and is actually quite interesting. It appears to be a constant wattage driver, which outputs 10W at up to about 44V from a ~12V input. I took the output down to about 14V and up to about 42V, and it was 10W output everywhere. If the output is driven below the input voltage the current begins to spike, so it won’t allow any lower voltages.

The optic is very nice, about the right size for a P60. I’m going to shave down the edges a tiny bit and build one into just that.
