PRESENTATION

Very well protected. In the box there are two plastic windows that allow us to clearly identify the content included in the package. In this case we can see in golden engravings and web of the brand and some of the data in the model. The presentation is quite correct.

The contents of the package, we find a small flashlight made in stainless steel, one o’ring and three sets of diffusers (Blue, Green and Red). The diffusers has been designed to bring the subject of the own flashlight and not to lose it. There is also a manual of instructions and technical spec fairly complete, although with some errata corrected in the model that I have received

The first surprise (well, the second, the first was the size, but I have already explained later) that I have carried out is the appearance and quality of the flashlight. I’m not sure why, but to see it in the photos I imagined a big piece for a AAA, and with form of “suppository”… In addition the mark makes many photos with the diffusers, which can be useful in certain occasions, but do not benefit from the aesthetic aspect of this elegant piece when you have in your hands. It is built in polished stainless steel, bright. Does not have any type of Knurling, except a few cracks in the head to favor the ignition and changing modes through Twisty. This esthetic only is broken with the engravings of the brand, model and serial number. In spite of being elegant, if it is true that we can put some objections to the exterior design of the flashlight.

The first, we will not be able to use it in tailsland. Another thing, is that despite some cracks in the head to favor the twisty, and that the threads are some of the most gentle of stainless steel models that i tested, it can sometimes be a bit slippery. This is something that, for example, happens to me also with my Bronte RA01 SS, and not with the aluminum, so it is possible that with the anodiced model K1 does not happen. Finally something that happens frequently in the AAA, that roll very easily if the surfaces are inclined, but this is easy to fix with a good lanyard. In terms of material quality and finishing at the external level it´s ok.

The K1S uses a PMMA lens Tir, of excellent quality. The perception of how the led is located on the lens is formidable. As far, threads are square, thick and very deep for the type of flashlight that is. Come very well lubricated, and i have to say that it is a twisty especially soft. With regard to the driver is protected by a plastic washer.

The diffusers are very simple to put and remove. The flashlight has a ring that secures the diffuser. The manual explain how to install the diffusers in the flashlight. The three diffusers (blue, red and green) have a peculiarity. They have a hole in the shape of a square at the apex of the diffuser that allows you to exit a little more light in case we need to enlighten more distance. The brand gives several ideas on the possible use of these diffusers (as a rear light bike, read, localized, etc….). Each one will see if you may or may not serve, but personally I think that a white diffuser can be added. I have done the test with the diffuser of the Ultratac K18 and i see suitable for some other uses.

SIZE AND WEIGHT

In addition to its constructive quality, I was positively surprised by this size and weight

USER INTERFACE

Twisty, comienzando en Mid, Hi y Low. If we repeat the whole cycle two times, as fourth mode will activate: Warning-Light.

POTENCIA, RUNTIME, COMPORTAMIENTO TÉRMICO Y REGULACIÓN

The instruction manual not specify exactly which brand of batteries have been used, but they show separate data for AAA alkaline and Nimh Batteries. First, I had doubts over if K1s can use 1044. Finally i have to say that they can use it without problems, but it is necessary that Button-Top, or use a magnet not too thick and nor too wide.

The modes are very similar to the specified by the brand, although somewhat lower in high mode. The rest is adjusted quite well to what was expected. More than 90 lumen is not nothing wrong with a Nimh aaa for this small. If we use 10440, the power is very hight, but the modes are much worse scaled and I believe that we would have problems with the temperature in hi and mid level. I think that this flashlight is made for Nimh AAA.

For regulation, power and projection, i will compare them with other two models that are well known. The 2016 ultratac K18 and Jetbeam Jet-u.

We can see that this flashlight use a scaling modes very similar, differing only in the final power. The K1S this at the level of the K18 in terms of distribution of maximum power modes and speaks quite well in their favor.

The flashlight is very well regulated in high and mid level, providing a constant flow of light (the oscillations that can be seen in the high mode have a variability of less than 5 lumen). According to official data, it speak of 55´, while in my measurements, the Ansi/Nema in this case (between 9-10 lumens) would be around 50 minutes (at a lower intensity continues for several more minutes). In mid level, data says that runtime is 5 hours, and my results indicate at around 6 hours…… I believe that here there is a mistake, because according to the specifications of the brand with NIMH batteries in high mode is a significantly more runtime with alkaline, but the opposite happens in low- and middle-mode. I repeat that I don’t know the make and model of the batteries used.

K1S vs K182016 vs Jet-u

Finally, we introduce the factor temperature. Have been 20 minutes without ventilation and I think it is more than enough for this type of models. The Jet to be aluminum plays with advantage.

PROYECCIÓN

For the projection, I opted for the hallway of my garage, and against to the wall. We continue comparing it with the Jet-U and the K18 2016. It is a projection clearly flood. I have done use 10440 for this test.

CONCLUSION

Sincerely, I have been surprised by the quality of the model, dimensions, power and regulation. Could be better?. Yes, in the head should take something that doesn’t make it slippery (it is possible that the aluminum version doesn’t happen), should be able to be used in tailsland, or have antirol. But, using it in a keychain its perfect. The K1S seems to me a very good AAA.

What would buy it? I have seen 14€ without applying coupons, and the model in aluminum to 11€ (no coupon). A good AAA in stainless steel, or aluminum, in a reduced size, if you are still above we get a coupon, I think it is a great purchase for fans of the AAA flashlight.

Good write up! I really like the description of the E3, but would like to know more about it. I am concerned that it may have visible PWM for those of us who notice it.

Nice review, and good pictures, thank you. :+1:

We just need to teach our Asian brothers about cultural differences that might result
In better Names for some of these lights.

Thank you very much.

I have not perceived PWM. But I don’t know if other people……

Thank you

Thank you very much for your detailed review and let us know more about our light.

I hv the Alu version and its my neck carry light(centered key ring makes it ideal for the chain). Its one of the smallest multimode light.

I received the stainless steel playfox recently.
Sold out now (Gearbest) but it was only $7.— or something.
It’s a very nice little light.
A bit heavy of course…
