What did you BREAK today?

Today i have learned the hard way that you always have to be careful with a soldering iron!
While solder blobbing brand new (my first 26650’s) i accidently shorted one (which gave a nice spark) because i had the big part/edge of the iron too close to the edge of the cell, that made the wrap melt, all because i forgot the size, im used to 18650’s probably, which never gave problems.
Cell is ok, need to rewrap it.

Try this on for size: I was messing with the hidden menu of my 46” flat screen TV…hit the wrong button and bricked it! Won’t even turn on or anything!

Solution: Buy new motherboard for TV…$240!

Not a bad price for a TV repair considering, but a TERRIBLE price to pay for just poking buttons on the remote!

Ouch!

What TV is that? I guess Samsung. There is a chance you can revive it; some will accept a fw from a usb drive or have a serial port exposed.

I broke a magnet ring while trying to fit it to the tail of X6.

Ya…samsung…tried the USB fw thing…didnt work. I read in some forums you could remove the eeprom chip and reflash it, etc, etc…but that was above and beyond my capabilities and I would have to buy the hardware to reflash it with no guarantee it would solve the issue. Quickest and not much more expensive than buying chip flashers was just to replace the board. Installed it…works again…expensive lesson…ugh!

Not today, or even yesterday, but on March 25th I “broke” my arm/neck (slipped a couple of discs in my neck, pinched the radial nerve in my left arm. Still dealing with the arm pain even after surgery) while pruning trees away from the house …
on June 22nd (because of the March 25th incident) I broke a new spending record for myself. $100,805.35 for the Ti plate in my neck. Geesh.

And today, I broke another record for myself, as of 1:55 this afternoon I will be 55 yrs old, feeling it, feeling it all too well…

Have been on Dr.s orders to cease and desist for the past 8 weeks, who knows what I might have broken had I not been sitting around on my hands. :stuck_out_tongue:

Titanium sure is expensive where you live

My expensive ($25) multi-meter broke. Screen no longer works even with new battery. Funny thing is my cheap harbor freight multi-meter keeps on working and has been for at least 2 years. lol

I know, right?

They even put it on crooked…

Almost had a screw break through…

But oh well, bone is already fusing to the plate, guess it’s too late to finagle it into true at this point, huh? lol

Dale, I hope you have health insurance. If so, how much did they cover out of that almost $101k?

Broke a Zaneflare F6 little brass 10180 light. Got it apart to find out it has the emitter board with components on the underside. Not emitter swappable for my level.
Put it back together and no workie. Its (Was) an ugly greenish tint. Good thing I only paid $5 for it. Really a useless light… Whistle does not work and is a waste of space making the light longer and heavier that it should be. The head design wastes space too. Really could have been a nice little light, in Brass. Almost as long as my AAA Olight I3E EOS Copper. For the $5 deal I bought more than one, makes this one a parts light. Managed to shorten another to a somewhat usable size…

Note to self: Always check the temperature setting before reflowing. :person_facepalming:

Didn’t quite break it, but gave my M1 a sizable crack to the lens. I didn’t set it down properly on the towel rack and it fell, and in my hurry to catch it I sent my hand hurtling down and only managed to slap it downwards to hit the ground even harder.

Look on the bottom right of the bezel:

Now I’m waiting for the replacement lenses. Simon is a real bro!

Yeesh. That happened to me once, in an office building. This crazy guy Hans Grüber busted a whole bunch of windows and I had to go across that floor… barefooty!

Ouch!

On the bright side, now you got a DTP board…

I was going to write that I “broke” an AT01 (true POS through and through… think they arrive broken), because the switch was going all mental and the thing was going bright, dim, strobe, stutter, etc., but I kindasorta “fixed” it, at least ’til I look at it crooked again.

Looks like a nice light, but it’s not. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

duh i damaged my Convoy S2+ by overdriving it :person_facepalming:

Wouldn’t that be “mod, mod, mod”? That said, I don’t know its base price.

Wheee!

So… no, no, no.
