ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

I just ordered one of these from fasttech for $11.67 , I have been looking for an UK Legal knife, It has to be under 3" long, foldable and non-locking.

So just spent the last week looking for something original and tough looking, It only has an 5Cr15Mov blade, But that fine for the money.

Nice find!
In my wish list it went as I don’t have any friction folder yet.

I’ve finished my review about the Bear Claw made Shirogorov - Sinkevich Sigma flipper:

That middle one looks useful and comfortable. Nice!

I just cancelled a knife from fasttech, they list the blade at 75mm long the UK legal limit is 76.2mm, but when i googled the knife to find the steel type i found a number of sites listing the blade length at 80mm, I also found a link to this thread from an UK owner who had reduced the length of the blade to make it UK legal.

The knife i had ordered was an "Sanrenmu M1" as it has no blade lock.

It`s a pain looking at all the nice knives that are too long or have an blade lock, I will just have to make do with the little 2.5" one i posted above that i ordered.

John.

I would consider taking a chance, I only have a handful of non locking knives and the Sanrenmu M1 is one of them, very nice knife.
I can confirm the blade being 80mm though.
Another very nice Sanrenmu non locking that I have is the 4077, extremely well built knife for the price, the blade is a bit short though.

Nice knife but the socket feature is not what i need, I know how to search now, thanks.

John.

I guess you know the SRM 9055 already then.

I thought it would be an updated M1 with 4 clip positions but it doesn’t come close quality wise.

The M1 just feels like a $40 to me whereas the 9055 is worth the $12 I paid for them.

Yeah, Gear Best says the 9055 blade length is 78mm, Fasttech says it 80mm, I need a blade 76.2mm or less to be Legal.

Thanks for looking.

John.

Did you ever get checked for carrying a knife? And what if it’s some mm longer, what’s the fine?
Or do they just confiscate the knife for their own collection?

Just ordered a Ganzo 8012, the black version is on a flash sale on GB right now (17€)

Awesome! :+1:
It would be great if you could compare the sheaths too.

Negative. Now… what we are supposed to do is keep track of online purchases for which we have not paid our State (regional) sales tax… then claim that amount on our year-end tax return to the government. Almost no one does… Any seller we buy from outside of our own State (i.e Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Vermont, etc… ) won’t be charging sales tax, as that varies depending on where you live… BUT, if a retailer has a physical presence in our State, like a brick and morotr storefront, then they can and do charge the applicable sales tax.

Otherwise, as far as ordering stuff from China, Japan, Finland, etc… nah… no import taxes or duties that I am aware of. That may be different for large items, or extremely expensive stuff, like automobiles being bought and imported, but those have significantly more paperwork attached to them.

I was looking for a knife for a gift for a friend and stumbled across these:

If anyone every wanted to check out a ADV Butcher:

or a Sebenza:

Or a P’Kal:

Be careful with that Sebenza, it’s a Slipjenza actually.

Maybe that’s cool if you’re in countries with strict knife laws though…

Kind of a bummer now that Amazon built that huge fulfillment center in Livonia. Have to pay State sales tax on Amazon fulfilled orders now.

As far as US import duties, I believe we are allowed $200 if you have something shipped to you, and $400 if you bring it with you from traveling abroad.

Can someone recommend a locking small partially serrated knife - something comparable to the Gerber LST 300 in weight and quality would be ideal?

At this point my favorite budget knife is my zt 0808 clone. Smooth one-hand open and close with a smooth bearing pivot. Much better than the Ganzo knives I have. Not to say they’re bad but the 0808 clone is better. Wish I could find one with the Ti handle. It isn’t serrated but has handled every cut superbly and is still un re-sharpened. A bargain for the $20.xx paid. I REALLY like it. I would have slept better when I was at the quarterly stop in Wobeck with it vs the knife I normally had under my pillow - a case p62 - 4 1/2. The early 80s was a very tense period… The Case has the bonus of being silent due to the fixed blade and the quality of the blade although I did bend it abusively testing it against a car (1980s - before ‘cold steel’ started doing it). FWIW I was with the US military, but that’s all I can disclose.

FastTech they are not, placed an order last friday and it is not due to ship till tomorrow and i had to pay a little for the shipping as it`s a knife.

John.

You get SHOT if you talk about buying clones on Bladeforum.com, But buying clones is all i can afford.

Is their an Spyderco clone with a just under 3" blade, I will have to cut out the blade lock but it`s only a clone.

Thanks

John.
