Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Yes, you can get added to the list.

Not much comm. from Thorfire on details, but definitely, actually being assembled in quantity now. They told us 2 weeks, but assuming no issues, delays, etc...

How many lights in the batch?

I’ve put off getting in on one of these group buys for so long, but this light will be the one to drag me into the fold. Put me down for one please

Thought 1st batch is 500, not totally sure though.

Yes it is my understanding 500
Will update list, thanks for the kind words and trust!

Would love to know any information about the timing 'between' batches; both my spots are in batch 3 if they're done in lots of 500.

Sorry so late to reply… I had the copper buttons from buying Old-Lumens modding stock. I think he bought an assortment from someplace on ebay. I don’t know for sure where he got them.

1/4” brass bar stock works great to make these, even by cutting off a short piece and sticking it in a drill then useing a cut off wheel on a dremel or even a hacksaw to cut off buttons of whatever depth (thickness) you require.

I hesitated to say “where” because I don’t want any rumors spreading from my inexperienced info. I will say the place I got them from has been vouched for by several members here and is U.S. based. I got them because they were on a bit of a sale at $5 each (down from a usual $6.50 each) and decided on them because of what appeared to be the minimal benefit gained with the button top 30Q’s (and of course longer runtimes with the GA’s).

To your point of “inconsistent” tests….I’ve read that several times here and hesitated to post because of it….and to DRIVE THAT POINT HOME……upon putting the batteries back on the charger to FAST TEST again (after they had rested for several hours) and NONE of them read over 42mr. In fact, the one that DID read 96mr earlier, is now reading 17mr. SO….in consistent? I’d say.

The good news is (to me at least), they did all read in the low to mid 3400mah range….so at least that part seems true.

I would imagine they squeeze in production of the Q8 in between production of their regular product line. Might be difficult to predict wait time between batches.

Can I be put on the list? Thanks.

From a few posts earlier.

Appropo nothing, but speaking only for myself, I’d rather they come in at the end of September perfect than they come in at the end of August with issues. Lets give Thorfire time to make them right the first time through.

Absolutely! No hurry, get it right first, and not first to get it wrong.

Wow really happy to see this is coming to reality. Glad i Posted early on to make sure i hit first batch, thanks for all the hardwork guys!!!

How much will the Q8 weigh (without batteries)? I did a search, but I couldn’t find anything regarding this.

Yes will update list later.

Weight is not mentioned? I remember Tom posting it but next time I grab the Q8 I will put it on a scale.

cdjaney, I break contact by sliding cells away from the +contact a few times and go with the lowest I see in say 5 times IR showing.
When normal charging I don’t pay much attention to the IR measurements unless it shows 80 or higher, then I check it a few times for that particular cell.

After playing with D4 for a couple of days I get thoughts “Do I really want Q8 too?…”.

I have both, and I love the D4, but the Q8 gets different use: my D4 does 10 second 2800 lumen bursts on turbo (new high CRI leds), the Q8 does over 6000 for 3 minutes (=18 times longer), the D4 can run contuously tailstanding at 300/400 lumen, the Q8 at 2000.

But I agree that the D4 is something special!

Some bed time reading if you really want to know about the Inverse Square Law:

Sound is same principle but not the same rule (explained on wikipedia), in case you wondered  :student:

You can always ask a photographer, as flash photography requires a good understanding of when to move lights closer, and how much power you will need if you move them further away…
