FW3A, a TLF/BLF EDC flashlight - SST-20 available, coupon codes public

No chance it’ll activate as easily as a side switch

Lock out via software or a slight unscrew and no accidental turn on possible.

It’s the full narsil, right?
So 4 fast clicks to lock or unlock it.

Yes full Narsil with all its bells and whistles

I’ve rehosted Cawi’s image because it required a TLF login to see. It’s an XP-G3 4000K 90 CRI:

This looks better than other beamshots of XP-G3s I’ve seen, but beamshots are hard.

Thanks zak, I edited my post

The Miller - could you add me to the interest list too.
The last few pages with favorable comparisons to the D4 have really gotten my attention.
:sunglasses:

Wow hadn’t seen that, looks pretty nice IMHO

How can that be 4000k? It’s not even yellow! Lol

He wrote it’s from a smartphone. So I wouldn’t rely on correct color. But the light distribution is nice.
He wrote also about a light yellow ring on the outside typicall for xp-G3, but no artefacts.

Any idea if this light would be made available publicly (and continued to be produced) by Lumintop(or other maker) after the group buy ends?

I’m interested in 1.
CW (cool white) if it’s an option but I only see NW in the OP.
Either way, interested, please add me to the list. Thank you.

I'm for a CW option too

I need to be on a list…please add me here. Thanks.

NW is indeed the only option
No glue will be used so swapping emitters is possible, giving all the option to use preferred LEDs.
Since NW is more popular, I bet t will not be hard to trade the emitters with somebody else on the forum for the cost of postage

Will update list later.

joechina is right, the picture was taken with my smartphone and should not be taken as reference, neither for color/bin/tint nor for CRI of the final LED. In fact I just took the image for explaining something during the conversion with LT and I used what I had next to me. I’ll try to make a proper beamshot in a week or so (have to check if I have a triple, normally I use LED’s with higher CRI) but in fact there won’t be much special on a possible beamshot. Until now we don’t intend to use any special/secret/new components and therefore the beamshot should look pretty much the same as every other beamshot with an XP-G3 and a Carclo 10507

Thanks for clarification!
The whole optic can shine, a lot of lights cover a small part, this could make a difference in beam right?

I still think 10511 is Where It’s At.

For XP-G2, the official specs are:

  • 10507: 4.8 cd/lm
  • 10511: 5.5 cd/lm

For XP-G3, the ratings are lower:

  • 10507: 3.1 cd/lm
  • 10511: 2.7 cd/lm

Nichia 219c has similar ratings:

  • 10507: 3.3 cd/lm
  • 10511: 2.9 cd/lm

Not sure why the relative throwiness reverses sometimes, but the 10511’s throw increases if you polish the frosted part by rubbing it on fabric or something… and afterward it still has less corona artifacts than the 10507. It’s too bad they don’t seem to come in a non-frosted 10511 variety.

Here are a few configuration estimates, taking into account the optic specs and an estimated lumen count:

  • 219c w/ 10507: ~3000 lm, ~9.9 kcd lux
  • 219c w/ 10511: ~2950 lm, ~8.5 kcd lux
  • XP-G2 w/ 10507: ~2500 lm, ~11.9 kcd lux
  • XP-G2 w/ 10511: ~2400 lm, ~13.2 kcd lux
  • XP-G3 w/ 10507: ~3600 lm, ~11.1 kcd lux
  • XP-G3 w/ 10511: ~3500 lm, ~9.5 kcd lux
  • XP-L HI w/ 10507: ~3350 lm, (no cd/lm data available, guessing ~18.7 kcd lux)
  • XP-L HI w/ 10511: ~3300 lm, (no cd/lm data available, guessing ~20.8 kcd lux)

These are all totally theoretical though, using numbers from Carclo’s specs and measurements of similar lights. They’re probably pretty far off from reality. Mostly I just wanted to show that there are a variety of sweet spots for different use cases. The FW3A’s specified config is one of those sweet spots, but other options might be interesting later too.

Mostly, I just think the 10511’s beam looks a lot smoother, and the difference in throw is usually small. Here’s how they compare in two of my lights… 10507 on the left, 10511 on the right:

Put me up for one!

Wow that is some neat info TK, a little rubbing and beam improves, thanks!

Yes will update list later
