TK's Emisar D4 review

By a quirk of mapmaking, Greenland claims territory all the way from 11 degrees West out to 74 degrees West.
You could say Greenland extends to midway between Iceland and England.

I am located 35 degrees West,
which is East of almost all the Greenland population, and most of the land mass.

This part of Brazil was forgotten cattle grazing scrubland and fishing villages until the US Army needed a jump off point to fight Rommel during WWII.

Thanks for the geography/history lesson

Mine finally came. It definitely took a postal journey, but it was worth it. UI on this thing is wicked, thanks Tom and TK

I got 219C in green of course. Beam shape is only noticeable on smooth surfaces. Definitely gonna get a cloudy optic though. Might try dc fix before that just for kicks, I know it doesn’t do much to TIRs compared to reflectors. This thing is small! My E2L seems big now. Tint is also great, makes my other lights look yellow in comparison.

I’ve got both a 219c and 6500k on order, I’m going to compare them to my E14 II which I believe has similar turn on power. It’s recording nearly twice as much lumens as my DQG Tiny 3th!

Excellent!!!

I tried to EDC the D4 in my pocket (with keys) for a few days, and am afraid it is not going to stay there. Without lock-out it fires in the pocket about twice a day (some were to moon, some a lot higher), with lockout (manual or via UI) it takes fiddling before I can use it. I use my light multiple times a day so it is sort of important to me to switch it on in a second.

So for EDC I’m back to my E2L shorty, which was tough competition for the D4 anyway  (219BV1SW40R9080,BLFA6driver,slowdiscotail) which works great, it is a bit smaller, and a tail clicky is not just switching on by accident.

The D4 is going camping with me next week, for that it is a great allround light

But perhaps for a future firmware of the D4 a thought or two can be dedicated to how to implement a quicker lockout sequence.

I have the E14 with 219C (stock version) and it’s nowhere near as bright as the D4 (with 219C).

I experienced “hot pants” even with my short S2+Triple EDCs several times. Afterwards I changed my driver firmwares to only cycle through safe modes (in terms of heat) - unless the user double-clicks the switch. The D4 needs something like this.

And it also needs a lanyard hole and space for protected batteries.

Hi. I just ordered a couple of the D4’s. Received one of them already but it’s so small that I’m afraid that it’ll fall out of my pocket. Where can I buy pocket clips for them?

About that… and all other UI suggestions… I have a large part of the code foundation written and working already. I doubt it’ll be long before I have a “RampingIOS v3” firmware available which 1) implements all the changes which I think sound good, and 2) is dramatically easier to modify. It’s a complete from-scratch rewrite totally unlike anything else in the repository.

Just received my second D4, a green in xp-g2 3d. I really like this tint. It’s ever so slightly warmer than the nichia - a nice pale white, still very neutral though.

My only complaint is that the groove for the pocket clip came with a big scratch and the lens had lots of dust underneath. It feels like this was used, maybe a returned unit, or poor qc. Beside the cosmetics the light functions fine. I can disassemble the head and clean the lens and the groove would’ve been scratched eventually, so I’m probably not going to bother with a refund or anything.

The Convoy deep carry clips work, but beware that it might scratch the anodizing, at least it did on mine.
Any other clip that has a 3mm(max) tall collar with a 18-20mm diameter should work.

Thanks. I don’t want to scratch it so soon lol. Did you measure the dimensions with a caliper? I have one at work but I’ll have to wait until Monday.

I’d love a clip or two too, but I haven’t been very happy with any that I found yet. I may see about ordering some of those “205” style clips though, which seemed reasonably decent aside from not being deep enough.

I haven’t found anything at all which would work on the 18350 tubes, which is unfortunate since that’s the size I would most want to clip to things.

Until I can find a clip, I’m just using a zip tie and a wrist strap lol.

excellent idea with the zip tie!

I couldn’t get this one to work:

Sig P225? A-Zoom?

It’s been in my backpack for several days. Got scratches in 3 places and a tiny dent in the tail cap. Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think it will stay in a perfect condition for long in any pocket. And so I wouldn’t bother much about scratching it with a tail clip.
OTOH DQG Tiny 4th came with a clip and I scratched the light while removing it before the 1st use. That wasn’t nice. Especially that it’s still the only damage.

djozz, twist-lockout works well for me. Though the delay until it stops blinking is sometimes annoying.

TK, you’re great.

I think this deserves repeating

Man some shoebox tests show my FET driven E2L with triple XP-G2s isn’t quite as bright as I hoped, and that as the battery drains my quad 219Cs in the D4 rapidly become twice as bright.

I carried the D4 around tonight and this thing EATS batteries. Going near turbo is just silly, but I LOVE it. I was showing some friends how it works and they started joking, “and press the button this many times for the bat signal” to which I responded by showing them the bat check logo on the UI graphic. “So what do you have to do for it to play music to you?” Told them I hadn’t figured it out that far, but it might be possible.

Lastly, I just use the physical lockout for now. It’s fairly easy, but I did find myself fiddling a bit to twist the end cap on with one hand. I don’t like pocket clips at all so that’s moot for me, however, I will try that zip tie

will this driver alone be available ??
