TK's Emisar D4 review

Just received my second D4, a green in xp-g2 3d. I really like this tint. Itā€™s ever so slightly warmer than the nichia - a nice pale white, still very neutral though.

My only complaint is that the groove for the pocket clip came with a big scratch and the lens had lots of dust underneath. It feels like this was used, maybe a returned unit, or poor qc. Beside the cosmetics the light functions fine. I can disassemble the head and clean the lens and the groove wouldā€™ve been scratched eventually, so Iā€™m probably not going to bother with a refund or anything.

The Convoy deep carry clips work, but beware that it might scratch the anodizing, at least it did on mine.
Any other clip that has a 3mm(max) tall collar with a 18-20mm diameter should work.

Thanks. I donā€™t want to scratch it so soon lol. Did you measure the dimensions with a caliper? I have one at work but Iā€™ll have to wait until Monday.

Iā€™d love a clip or two too, but I havenā€™t been very happy with any that I found yet. I may see about ordering some of those ā€œ205ā€ style clips though, which seemed reasonably decent aside from not being deep enough.

I havenā€™t found anything at all which would work on the 18350 tubes, which is unfortunate since thatā€™s the size I would most want to clip to things.

Until I can find a clip, Iā€™m just using a zip tie and a wrist strap lol.

excellent idea with the zip tie!

I couldnā€™t get this one to work:

Sig P225? A-Zoom?

Itā€™s been in my backpack for several days. Got scratches in 3 places and a tiny dent in the tail cap. Maybe itā€™s just me, but I donā€™t think it will stay in a perfect condition for long in any pocket. And so I wouldnā€™t bother much about scratching it with a tail clip.
OTOH DQG Tiny 4th came with a clip and I scratched the light while removing it before the 1st use. That wasnā€™t nice. Especially that itā€™s still the only damage.

djozz, twist-lockout works well for me. Though the delay until it stops blinking is sometimes annoying.

TK, youā€™re great.

I think this deserves repeating

Man some shoebox tests show my FET driven E2L with triple XP-G2s isnā€™t quite as bright as I hoped, and that as the battery drains my quad 219Cs in the D4 rapidly become twice as bright.

I carried the D4 around tonight and this thing EATS batteries. Going near turbo is just silly, but I LOVE it. I was showing some friends how it works and they started joking, ā€œand press the button this many times for the bat signalā€ to which I responded by showing them the bat check logo on the UI graphic. ā€œSo what do you have to do for it to play music to you?ā€ Told them I hadnā€™t figured it out that far, but it might be possible.

Lastly, I just use the physical lockout for now. Itā€™s fairly easy, but I did find myself fiddling a bit to twist the end cap on with one hand. I donā€™t like pocket clips at all so thatā€™s moot for me, however, I will try that zip tie

will this driver alone be available ??

I believe there is mention of this a few pages back, MTN will have them available?

They joke, but ā€¦ it has been done:

I see that 5 clicks hasnā€™t been assigned to a mode yet, this should be it.

No, MTN offers different (but similar) drivers with the same UI.

As to UIā€¦People, I warn you, donā€™t buy D4.
Itā€™s dangerous. Ever since I bought it, whenever I think ā€œWow, what a nice flashlight, maybe I should get oneā€, a thought follows: ā€œUI will suckā€.
Then I start wondering about getting one modded.
If itā€™s clicky, I recognise itā€™s a terminal disease. But then start thinking about crescendoā€¦and since I donā€™t trust this works as well, I decide not to get the light.

 I had to re-read your post to find out what you intended to say, LOL

Haha, me too! Twice!

I still don't get it... It sounds like a rant.... But.....

Itā€™s a money saver; the D4 kills our hobby of buying lights. Itā€™s a reference light to which other EDC lights are compared to. Same with M43.

Yes, I believe what heā€™s trying to say is that the D4ā€™s UI is so good that youā€™ll never need to buy another light.

The entire light is excellent. Apart from UI, one of the things I enjoy every time is picking up the light and without looking at it finding the button via the raised section left and right of the button. Once the button is found quickly, pressing it gives such a nice tactile feel and feedback. So before youā€™re dealing with UI, the experience is already really nice.
