Tesla Model 3 - are you buying?

Tesla can kiss my you know what.

LOL, where is the thumbs up button when you need it.

This is great idea save the planet by powering a car with electricity that comes from fossil fuels any way! Not to mention how much energy is wasted building a Tesla.

Honda and there hydrogen powered car have a much better idea . Although i believe we still source our hydrogen from fossil fuels gas i believe?

First you need to ask for a good coupon!

Not so everywhere, in Sweden all electricity comes from hydro/nuclear (and a little bit of wind); no fossil at all.

why you guy hate Tesla?, i dont understand…
it runs on battery, which can store energy from many source( like solar, wind, vv, not only fossil fuel)
and its auto pilot looks cool and great

A number of reasons:

First, non-fossil-fueled electricity has yet to make any large scale progress. There are small-scale exceptions, but burning fossil fuels, then taking all the distribution losses to charge batteries, is worse for the environment than gasoline powered cars, at least in the US.

Second, Tesla (and SpaceX) are the epitome of crony capitalism. They’ve never made a profit, and exist because of heavy taxpayer subsidies. That puts other green competition at a heavy disadvantage, potentially delaying real progress in clean energy. Most beneficiaries of the this government redistribution are the wealthy who can afford $200K cars (and Elon Musk).

Someday, something will come along that will be a cleaner, sustainable improvement to the internal combustion engine. But it hasn’t yet, and I doubt it will come from Tesla.

Just my $.02

oh, now i’ve learnt something new, thanks bro

I certainly don’t hate Tesla as a car, but the taxpayer’s are funding the first $7k credit from the Feds and more from some States which does bother me. Not to mention Tesla owners don’t pay any road taxes which is collected by cents per gallon at the gas pump. Not sure this company could stand on it’s own without subsidies.

edit… must have been typing at the same time as manithree

Unless I’m reading it wrong, Sweden still uses 27% fossil fuel as of 2016. Probably a little less now.

btw, tax system in my country is real pain in the @ss, a car’s price in my country is normal 2.5x or triple higher than many other countries(japan, us, EU, etc)

Came to see the thread - found pretty much what I expected

For Teslas running on fossil electricity: large fossilplants are AFAIK still quite clean if you don’t include co2 emissions compared to petrol/diesel cars.

Green energy has yet to make progress as manithree said (and for loooong time will not, I might add) but take a look at nuclear electricity production.

When the “environmentalists” stop fighting nuclear power, and maybe after some innovation and improvement, then nuclear power will catch on, then I’ll buy an electric car. Or my kids will.

I don’t know where those figures originate, maybe they count cars/trucks (yes, they still predominantly burn gas/diesel here too).

The only use of fossil fuels for production of electricity in Sweden is emergency power, and it is very marginal (4 TWh/year) of the total production (cirka 150 TWh/year).

Check a better source here:

The sources on Trending Economics come from the Swedish Government based on gross national product and total energy consumption. So, yes, kind of difficult to build and maintain nuke, solar, hydro, or wind plants without using fossil fuels, not to mention massive number of batteries to store energy. But, Sweden is certainly ahead of most everyone else with clean(er) energy.

Exactly…
Technology is doing quite good (see breeder reactors, thorium reactors) but to build is in most cases politically impossible for the reason you mentioned. :frowning:

I thought France and Germany were working towards getting rid of the nuclear power reactors in light of the Fukushima disaster?

True, but 27% of the energy sounds too high to make sense.

Yes out with nuclear its old rubbish! Germany has already turned of most of its NPP but will phase them all out by 2022. France will phase them all out by 25% by 2025 i think? I can understand France even though i do not agree with NPP but seeing as they reprocess so much fuel at Avera they have to use it some where.

Avera is going bankrupt they are being kept alive the French government. Even Toshiba is going broke from nuclear power and Toshiba made such good hard drives but they had to sell that department to pay for its Westinghouse division.

So much fossil fuel energy goes into processing the nuclear fuel its crazy to say it has zero carbon footprint not to mention building the plants them selves is much harder and more complex then a coal power plant.
