Non-torch interests

My interests are:
Photography (in particular Light Painting)
Urbex
Rollercoasters
Horizontal dancing

Wow, I’m boring :person_facepalming:

  • I like to repeatedly pick heavy things up then put them down. Squat, deadlift, bench, strict OHP & bent over rows. All about strength gains, not trying to be no bodybuilder or pro anything. I would like to learn the clean&jerk and power snatch, Those are technical and self learning hasn’t worked for me. I need a coach to teach me safely and that costs money.
  • PC gaming. Putting PC builds together, not that it’s hard, basically Legos for adults. Don’t do any modding, just like helping others ascend.
  • Motorcycles, don’t do much for fun riding anymore. I currently commute 90% of the time via my bike. I also like working on my own bike and cars.
  • I’m still a kid at heart and love all the fun stuff still. Amusement parks, roller coaster, water parks, paint balling (sold off my gear, used to go every weekend, not so much anymore and just use rentals), going to try some airsoft looks fun. Indoor wall climbing.

What are your pens of choice? I’ve been EDC’ing a white Twsbi ECO with Iroshizuku Kon-peki for the past few months and I’ve been really happy with it.

I wouldn’t know about personal pens (a good old Bic Cristal has proven reliable and pleasant enough for me), but I have a Pentel 0.9 propelling pencil that I won’t change for anything in the world

Here’s a photo of one of my favorite finds, a dumbbell tektite. I have other material and torch tested a piece to confirm it is tektite. They look brown but when broken the material is translucent green. This dumbbell is about 4 1/2” long and 1 1/2” at its widest point. Found in a creek about 1/4 mile from my home. There’s an abundance of this material but no known strewn field to account for it. It is possible the suspected impact site in Lake Michigan may be the source but for many years I’ve suspected there’s more to the formation of the Great Lakes than glaciers.

more to come…

I was a voracious reader and favored fantasy and sci-fi (Heinlein, asimov, anthony, brooks,…) and an avid AD&D player. Cycling, hiking, fishing, camping, tech (self-built computers since the mid ’90s), photography (when I had a decent camera), music (lyrics, some composition, and a good vocal range), … my interests are varied.

Guns, all kinds, lots of assault weapons.
Motorcycles, street and dirt, also like to work on them.
Concerts, mostly rock but like most kinds of music. Prince was my favorite artist.
Boating and fishing, have slowed down a lot on these though, don’t have the time.
Gardening to a lesser extent, into Live Oak trees and azaleas.
Vintage audio equipment but it takes up so much room so the collection is limited.
Used to be into watches, still have a lot but don’t even wear one now.

Occasionally when rock hunting I encounter something odd. This is one example that I usually refer to as ‘McKinley’s head’. It is inscribed with “Hon. Wm. McKinley” to the left and “our next President” to the right in a somewhat flourished script below the ‘shoulder’ area as viewed. Found in 2007 if I remember correctly. Hollow, not solid with a small irregular hole in the back of the head. Mustard test indicates the possibility it might be silver. Height is approximately 3”.

Lanterns, guns, motorcycles, cars, outdoors, camping, hiking, canoeing, boating, fishing, hunting, expeditions, vintage flashlight & lanterns, and flashlights.

Sure it’s not Lincoln, instead?

Vintage Mini Bikes and Vintage small bore Honda motorcycles
Electric Slot Cars HO & 1:32 scale
Guitars and tube amps
Old International Harvester Cub Cadet Tractors

atm… subject to change

mountain bike (160mm of travel)
tennis (string my own rackets)
coffee roasting (espresso-based mostly)

I’ve had a few hobbies come and go depending on the people I have around me. Working on small gas engines, rc cars, building and fighting battle bots(think small scale robot wars), playing smash bros. competitively, hacky sack/footbag, casual cycling on the local trails, but want to get into mountain biking, building computers, mechanical keyboards, anime, urban exploration, tried photography for a bit just wasn’t my thing, trading card games, and of course flashlights.

Guns. Collection, upgrading, shooting
Collecting high end watches through Watch Gang subscription
Vintage high quality audio gear, stereo equipment
Flying. Working on private pilots license.
Most important and closest to my heart thing I love to do is take care of and love my little dog Joey. A 6 pound Miniature Pinscher who has more personality than a lot of people. He is a very affectionate, playful, intelligent, and cool dog.

Off roading, 4X4 adventures (built Jeep XJ)
Woodworking
Camping, hiking, (built own converted cargo trailer for camping)
Computers
Black powder long guns (cap lock and flintlock)
Formula 1 and other motor sports (watching)
Nature photography. I used to do a lot of darkroom work, monochrome & color, 35 mm and 6x7. Now I use Photoshop.

Are you interested in a Cub Cadet 185, friend has one he would sell, sure you could get it for a little over scrap metal value. The story with it, used to pull a car up on a trailer and the clutch was slipping some but still working. Sat for a number of years, probably 10 or 12, engine is now locked and will not turn over.

No, I’m good right now and low on Barn space. Thanks for the thought though!

Photography, snorkeling, and bike speeding. The latter has evolved to “scooring” - long distance scooter touring. I sold my sport bike to prevent me from bike speeding which too addictive and risky these days. Short trip scooting is not too satisfying hence the scooring.

- Clemence

- DIY around the house. Build a wooden shed/workshop in the backyard last weeks.

- Family trips with the kids

- Music/audio equipment

-(mechanical) watches

- last but not least, kitebuggying!

- modifying anything vaguely technological that I can get my hands on (but usually consumer electronics-y things [and flashlights obviously])

- PC building/modifying (my own, for browsing, coding, work, and gaming/content creation (depending on the mood I’m in), and a few others for friends/family)

- using my DIY mid-drive electric road bike (commuting and touring (and some informal races with 125cc scooters - don’t ask how fast or safe it is :smiling_imp: ))

- TV, Film, and Music

- AudioVisual tech for enjoying said entertainment (modifying surround speakers - mostly electrical/electronic upgrades)

- RC vehicles (I have made, from scratch: a boat [upgrade is on my todo list], a hovercraft [needs repair - long story], a quadcopter [crashed, repaired, gave to a friend], two helicopters; one small for indoors and practice, one large for aerial photography)

- fountain pens, pocket knives, and other EDC-type cool, functional, and compact things that look interesting

- android custom ROM/Kernel flashing/experimentation/overclocking/undervolting etc

- designing and building other DIY electronic/electrical things that I can’t remember right now (a musical Tesla coil and a three-joint “robotic arm” both come to mind)

I read your headlight modification thread and immediately bought some emitters from you for my bike (bicycle) light, as I’m getting used to 80+CRI in my other lights, and I can’t go back now.

How do you find the difference in CRI affecting your riding experience?
