Harbor Freight Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

, I think the that rule only applies within a specific species. For instance, genetic mutations aside, a crapload from an elephant should be considerably more than a shitload from a mouse. I could be wrong. I'm not an expert in the realm of ballpark measurements.

I don’t think you’re wrong at all. Actually, I was thinking the same thing.

Which term would apply if one is knee deep in SHtuff?
Glenn your button must be easier to push… double tap.

VW, Actually my button is much harder to push. It’s clogged with SHtuff

Edit: Would you believe I get 2 more rude points for this? It’s comical.

This tool!

I spent ages this morning trying to coax my tie rod end to come loose but it wouldn’t budge. Finally gave up and drove the ~40 minutes driving to HF and bought the tool with one of my saved 20% coupons (and got a free tape measure). I got the tie rod end replaced and the car back together in less time than I had already wasted WITHOUT the tool.

Nice tool. I’d get one if I still worked on cars. These days I lease. I don’t even change my oil anymore.

See, that’s just the kind of tool HF is good for.
Back before HF I had to buy the “fork” type ball joint and tierod end splitters at NAPA and boy were they expensive. Probably better quality, but I only used them maybe a half dozen times.

BTW, I hadn’t checked this thread for awhile and when I finally did, there was a whole crapload of new posts!

I had one on my TJ and it never let me down
My dad has one on his CJ7 too, still does… Never let him down either!

I read a bunch of reviews on them and side by side comparisons with other brand names (think WARN) and the badlands performed just as good or better than those costing 2-3x as much.

I would buy another one without hesitation, i sold my jeep a cpl years ago… I have had 4 jeeps

that is a kick butt tool. VW had a factory tool that is identical in design for their tapered shank balljoints. I have the factory tool. Also a German Stahlwille smaller version for to tierods.

If the tierods are not over tightened I can usually just hit the spindle with a hammer where the taper fits at spindle . Just the right hit will resonate it apart.

The Hercules drill is too close in price to its Dewalt near clone, short warranty, and battery incompatibility with Dewalt, I’m going to pass on Hercules.

BOLTR, (AVE) has posted a teardown of the Harbor Freight Hercules drill and battery pack.
It is 46 minutes long and I listened to it today as I drove a 12 hour trip.
SPOILER:
He doesn’t like it, at all!
I have a very high regard for his teardowns. It’s a shame that HF didn’t do right on this one.

watched that aVe vid today. Hazard Fraut Fail.
Till you buy a second batteria you could buy the Dewilt
Hercules drill is pure marketing Wank. :money_mouth_face:

I also seen a vid of the “Blue” band saw the other week. That was a FAIL too, just for a blade change.

BTW docho, I am in CT the past week, Leaving tomorrow.

After watching his video, I’m glad I didn’t impulse buy one. That said, I’ve been more than happy with my Dewalt collection of corded and cordless power tools dating back to the early 1980’s. None have failed me.

And I have been in Ohio for the week and passed thru PA today on my way back to CT.

While in CT you should try to go to an Ocean State Job Lot and try to get some of those Crazy Deal LED bulbs

Didn’t get to one. Wouldn’t be able to spend the credit back at this point. And I don’t NEED any more Darn LED bulbs.

I was back in a Harbor Freight today and rechecked those Hercules drills.
In his review and teardown, AVE didn’t like the fit and finish of the frame. He is right, it’s terrible. I agree, it says alot about the overall quality.

Compare that to my DeWALT drill.

As far as the battery goes, during his testing he definitely overheated it drilling 1/2’ holes in a piece of aluminum.
It over heated to the point of shutting down several times and then was too hot to recharge until after it cooled down.
Just that one episode would be enough to diminish it’s capacity quite a lot.
I know, I killed a brand new Ridgid 5 cell battery with Samsung 20R’s in it abusing it in a Ridgid portable 18V vacuum cleaner. The demand of that tool was just too much for the battery and it killed it in 1 use. I now use double packs to run it, 10 cell 4Ah batteries.
He stated that the cells in the pack were off brand. The pack states the cells were made in S Korea, so we assumed they were Samsung.

aVe just did another Hercules vid. Think its just the assembly out takes. Foul language warning! It came apart easier.

Well, this is the final nail in Hercules coffin.
An honest to goodness REAL DeWalt drill, 2 batteries, charger and carry bag for $99

I think that’s pretty much the same as the WEN 56310i, which goes for a similar price.
They’ve got same displacement. On the other hand, the weight, nominal and peak wattage are lower for the Wen.

The 2000w Predator is pretty much identical to the 2000W Wen (and 2000W generators from a bunch of other brands.

Keep an eye on the warranty. The Predator 2000W is about the same price as its siblings, but I think has a worse warranty than many of them.

To be fair, the fit on my Ridgid 12V drill and driver is pretty poor, but not quite as bad as the Hercules. :confounded:
