vwpieces Vicious Circle... Builds FS (USA)

30 years! Sorry to hear, hold tight.

Sorry to hear about your job loss. I also lost my job after 30 years of dedicated service. This happened a couple of years ago. I’m now on social security.

Sorry to hear about your recent unemployment.
Hope it all works out soon and good luck !

So very sorry to hear of your job loss and wish you all the best in life and for this sale.

Thanks guys,
all too kind on here.
30 years there in a lead position, I am now 47 years Old. Had No raise in the last 10 years, no severance on the way out. Only regret is not leaving 15 years ago.

That really sucks. BTW, I got no severance pay either. I was 62 when they let me go.

Yeah Glenn we were sorta in the same business. You may have seen me mention before the “days are numbered”. Been there too long not to see the signs.
Just today my own employer published this news.

Condolences…

Worked at The Evil Company, and found out from AmEx that I got canned. They were pushing me to get an AmEx card, did the 1-800-THE-CARD thing to apply, some weeks went by, and no word. Finally called to find out, and the nice lady told me I was declined. Huh? Why?

“We called your company to verify your salary and how long you were there, but were told this Friday is going to be your last day there.”

Huh??

Poor woman was in tears at “surprising” me with that, but I was happy, and was consoling her.

Hey, sometimes you just gotta walk away, and take a nice long shower to get their stank offa you.

.

Oh dang vwpieces, was about to write how strange it is to just let somebody with 30 years experience walk out the door instead of let him teach new people, but read your link, paper news, explains a lot.
Sad but the world changes.

Lightbringer that is really nasty , one would expect some privacy laws being broken there.

Hiring personnel in the EU is expensive because of lots of protection people are entitled to, it slows down an economy but reading all this sure has some major benefits for workers.

Actually, that’s one of the “milder” stories I got about the place…

Funny(?) thing is, the Friday before, I was stressed out from the unrelenting abuse they heaped on me (and not just me), so I asked my boss for next week off, as I’d already accrued a full week of vacation. He balked, saying it “wasn’t a good time” to take off. I told him a week of vacation or a week of sicktime, his choice.

That whole next week I just stayed home to decompress, so I was home the entire time. I called AmEx that Monday, and the whoooooooole week, no one from the company called me. Point being, they got the call from AmEx while I was still there.

That Friday, late afternoon, I called. The receptionist sounded like she was talking to a ghost. I asked for Boss-Man, she transferred me over, he answers…

“Hey, HisNameHere, it’s me.”

“Oh… hi…”

“So, HisNameHere, should I bother coming in to work on Monday?”

“Well… no… I guess not.”

“Well, thanks for telling me.” —click—

Prime Grade-A asshats.

Like I said, sometimes you just gotta wash their stank offa you.

Still, it’s asshats like those, at asshat companies, that make me appreciate the good ones.

after being there for thirty years that’s retirement. look forward to the next step. I worked for my city since I was 14. retired in 2009. won’t get my pension until 2019. now I have to work for a living. I bounced around a few jobs for the past couple of years, but the one I have now is pretty decent, and i’ll probably keep working there until I retire again. it’s rough starting again at that age, but either stick with what you’ve been doing at a different company, or go into an entirely different direction. even if you work at a Wal-Mart or big box store in the meantime, you’re out in the world. use that opportunity to cultivate contacts to find a better job. you can also check with your state unemployment office for training opportunities in a different career path.

Good luck to you both VWpieces and Aginthelaw. Just noticed this post.

Good luck to you guys, that’s gotta hurt but remember it’s not you fault.

BTW, that Bobby Fuller Four song has the all time greatest guitar piece as far as I’m concerned!

Here is a cover of it by Bob Rivers, “I fought the Lawn”

I fought the lawn is so funny. His off key singing makes it even funnier. Thanks dchomak.

Sorry to hear about the job :frowning:
