Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

No, he actually recommends protected cells with the L6. I’m not sure if his driver is 100% fet. He pushes a high output bit 70.2 to 6500 lumens, and I know you guys have pushed the 70.2 to upwards of 9000 lumens.

I’d check with him about which protected cell to use. I’ve only had the KeepPowers which as supposed to be a top performer.

I see an Orbtronic rated at 15 amps.

He uses Acebeam protected cells for his lights, but I was wondering if there were any other protected 26650s with less voltage sag than those.

My L6 with 70.2 is doing some 9500 lumens with flat top non-protected LiitoKala cells. No sure why the issue of protected always comes up, the chemistry of today’s high discharge Li-ion’s is much safer than it used to be and as such, negates the need for the protection circuits in all but the newest of rookie hands.

WORD!

I just ordered one from Vinh.

I got the Orbtronic 26650

26650 battery Li-ion PROTECTED 3.7V by Orbtronic.

Real 5200mAh that will hold its rated capacity even under high current discharge load.
Free protective case included with each pair of 26650 batteries purchased.

Battery Specs:

Cell Capacity: 5200mAh
Cell Type: 26650
Dimensions: 26.5 mm x 68.8 mm (+/- 0.05mm)
Full charge: 4.2V
Recommended charging current: 2A – 3A CC/CV (Battery can be charged with current lower than 2A, but charging time will take much longer)
Nominal voltage: 3.7V
Cut-off: 2.5V
Max. Constant Current Discharge 15A (Protection circuit – cut off at 15A)
Weight: 97 g
Chemistry: Li-ion / Hybrid IMR
Positive terminal: Wide Button Top
Electronic External Protection: YES – full protection (overcharge, overdischarge, overcurrent (cutoff @ 15 Amp), short circuit)

For most applications, that Orbtronic sounds pretty good. My L6 is pulling 19.38A at the tail from a pair of Efest 20700 cells (the LiitoKala cells are a bit less, around 17A as I recall), reckon those Orbtronic cells wouldn’t run it.

I don’t know how is your xhp 70.2 survive with l6 with 9000 lumen …

You are probably right, the Orbtronics may not work in your light. But I bought them for my light and I am sure they will work fine.

I haven’t run it very long at the highest level to date, who knows, might not last long. Good thing for me there’s more out there. Somewhere along the way I got into pushing for all a light was worth, got hooked on that and it’s just how I do it now. Always looking for maximums from any given light. Not practical, I know, but it’s the challenge…

But of course wolfdog, and in many another light they should work well also.

You DID, after all, go to a lot of trouble to post all the specs on those cells in case anyone else was interested… They should make a good viable alternative for a gifted L6, even with some tweaks done to it. So it’s good to know what’s out there and available. Thanks!

I do not understand the specifics of why one should use “Protected” over IMR. I am just following the recommendation from the gentleman who sold me the light.Only a handful of his lights does he stress us to use Protected batteries.

I am just glad that I chose the Orbtronic 26650 over the Acebeam 26650. The Orbtronic had a capacity of 5096mAh with a 9A continuous load.

I am not positive, but I do not think the Acebeam can even handle a 9A load,at least not safely[too hot @ 7A]

The review below does NOT include the Orbtronic[15A max continuous discharge], instead it pairs the Xtar and Soshine against the Acebeam 26650. The Acebeam appears pitiful to me! It got way too hot at 7A .

For those who do not know the link can be translated into English. :sunglasses:

Where is a link to these protected orbtronics?

I saw them with a Google search.

Ok, if it’s the one listed on their site, then I’ll have to get some of those.

They are in Tampa, FLA. area, sal was still able to ship them to me yesterday despite all the power outages.

Let us know how the Orbtronics perform and if they fit in the L6 without have to backout the battery tube from the head a little bit.

Orbtronic usually ships really fast. Like order on Friday, here (NC) on Monday fast. Faster than Amazon Prime. :+1:

CPF coupon code will save you $2.60- C11P66F

Will do,the batteries are due on Monday and the L6vn could be arriving the same day. In any event I will have both early next week.

Sal informed me that they fit in the L6.I put my trust in him!

The batteries are 68.8m with a max length of 70mm for the L6…….I believe the girth[width] should also be fine.
