In the Autumn...

“In the Autumn a man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of… lights.” To paraphrase slightly…

So it’s getting noticably darker earlier in the evenings lately. I’ve found myself spending the past couple of days recharging cells, revisiting old projects, and generally tending to my lights.

This evening, I actually completed a “mod”. I replaced the narrow TIR optics on my Boruit RJ-3000 headlamp with 45-degree optics from FT. It wasn’t much, but it was something… The narrow optics were too throwy for up close work, and were superfluous alongside the main reflector light. It’s better now, but I’m kinda wishing I had used the 60-degree optics instead.

So anyone else getting their gear out again for fall/winter?
(Northern Hemisphere only I suppose…)

Yeah, I’ve been getting everything dotted and crossed for early darkness.

I got a 60 in my RJ02, and it’s great. Nice and even, decent flood. Tried both a 90 and 120, and… yecch. Big bullseye. Bright ring around the periphery, darker central zone, same hotspot as the 60. That bright outer ring is damned distracting, especially when moving around.

Might just be designed for different chips.
