Home Depot Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

Darn dcho, crazy attention to detail. How the heck you figured out the U-shanks would be a penny is beyond me, but I'll be swinging by a HD on the way to work tomorrow if the crazy post Irma traffic allows me.

I did end up picking up that Makita combo. It may be for homeowners, but it's pretty sweet. Both the drill and impact feel great in hand and seem quite powerful. Surely, not going to be Dewalt durable, but should be fine for light duty work.

That Makita set is the best deal on a drill and driver combo I have ever seen. I have seen Ryobi at $99, but they only came with 1.3Ah batteries. Yours come with 2.0Ah, AND Makita beats Ryobi anyway.
Can you verify the SKU number? Is that set I posted the one at $85?

Found some stuff

Could we do with fewer google drive links, postimage is free and can be shown in posts

Yes, the number you zoomed into and reported matches:

Thanks for the heads up on this one. They were $119.00, but just today went to an even $85. I grabbed 3 for friends, but when HD heard what the price had gone to, all 8 were gone in an instant. No one at HD knew where they were, not the price.
Here are the scans from 2 days ago and then today.

Here is the UPC in case anybody want to test their store for price

Where they were in an overhead

I must say, I was a little disturbed that the batteries came inserted into the tool straight out of the box. That usually isn’t done.
All appeared dead, but did charge right up. Maybe Makita has a way of shipping batteries “turned off” until they first see a charger.
I never store my battery inserted into a tool for fear of leakage and a resulting fatal discharge.

Oh, the other 7 were behind to one if view.

It's unusual for a discount to start at the HD's I visit before they start at your stores. It's nice return a favor for the hundreds the alerts you have provided us. Nice job on finding them in advance (Post 2341). Finder power still working like a charm.

I think your friends will like those units. Mine also had the packs on the drill and impact driver. I didn't think anything of it as I have always kept mine that way. I like the active cooling in the charger, but I wish there was a switch to turn off rapid charging.

i don’t understand what you mean by ‘when HD heard the price’ and “not the price”

While chatting up an employee who was marking labeling things on the clearance rack a few weeks ago, he told me that some merchandise on clearance gets used in store. I would assume that Drills and impact drivers would be frequently used items in a place that assembles shelving and such. That Makita set is the next generation up from mine that came with 1500mAh packs. I bought mine circa 2007, and they are still going. I did buy another tool set with more batteries, but the 1500’s do still hold a charge. $85 for that set is a GREAT price.

Home Depot Dude was quite impressed with the education I got here in this thread. I was eyeballing something I didn’t need, but had an appealing price and said it wasn’t a good enough price, he said it “might get marked down again” I looked at the price tag and said, “yes, three months from, date, which means if it is still here on date, it should be $$.03” He laughed and said he wasn’t supposed to tell people that but, yes, that was pretty likely.

What I was trying to say is that the Home Depot guys didn’t even know they were in to store, nor did they know the price.
After having learned both, they grabbed the rest. My spell check changed “nor” to “not”

The part of the story I didn’t tell was that when the guy went up to get them, the first 2 boxes had been opened. When I saw the inserted batteries I was worried enough to ask for 2 others that were unopened.
Afterwards, when I dropped 2 off to a friend I insisted we open them up and check them out right then and there. Those inserted batteries were also dead, and when we tried to charge them we found that the included charger was DOA. I immediately took them all back and had them pull all stock down to be checked out. All of that raised such a commotion in the store that EVERYBODY by then had heard of the deal. Turns out, only that 1 charger out of all 8 in stock was NG.

That night, I went across the river to get a birthday present for my wife. Wouldn’t you know, there was another HD right across the street
I asked them to check for stock and price, and guess what?
They had 22 of them, all of them off the floor and in an overhead. No one there knew anything about them either!

I had them pull down 2 more for me, “just in case”

Here’s another tip for those of us “in the know.”
These 2 packages of 2 “HD” lights look the same at first glance.
Actually the one on top is a soft white bulb and the one on the bottom is clear.

Big difference in the price. I found the clear one mixed in with the stock of soft whites.

Another awesome deal
This includes a 9.0AH battery pack and charger.
Actually the sawzall is free, The origianl price of $249 is for the charger and pack.

Thanks for the info about the makita combo drill kit, and now i understand your comments. Hard to believe a store had 22 in stock and they didn’t even know it, but then when you found and told them—they flew off the shelves…

i went to my local HD and checked the computer at the desk—it indicated 1 in store but no home or location on the store map. We searched the upper decks but couldn’t find it. But the computer found a store about 50 miles away that said 3 in stock.

Before driving over for a wasted trip, i called that store to see if they really had them—that was a mistake.

Indeed the fellow checked and actually found 4 on the upper deck, so i asked him to hold 2 for me and that i would drive right over. He said no can do on the hold, but that they were topside and not to worry since nobody looks up there.

So i load and make the drive, get to the store and can’t find them on the upper shelves. Then some HD bubba tells me that people came in and bought them all. So between when i called (and they didn’t even know they had them) to an hour or so later, they were gone.

So the Moral of the story: don’t ask the HD folks for help to find the great deals, they will scarf it up for themselves, friends and family…

But i did find three $299.00 16” Ryobi 40V lawnmowers with the 4.0 Ahr packs listed in clearance for $149 with a date of 12/12/16. So i talked to the manager about when they might go down to the 75.03 price and that i would buy all of them if they did. He checked his phone and said not everything gets marked down that way, but he would let them go for $100 each. So i basically got 3 free lawnmowers and chargers with 4.0 Ahr packs, for the price of three 2.6 Ahr 40V packs.

Wow, yes you did!

Here’s my “3 lawnmower” story.

I had an old Toro 5GTS that needed parts. I found a guy on Craigslist with 3 non working 5GTS’s. He wanted $35 for the 3 (just take them away)
After getting them home, and some cannibalization, I got 3 working mowers out of the pile of 4

Who needs 3 mowers?
Not I, but it was a lot of fun getting them going. I now use them in rotation, a different mower each time.
Just for the fun of it!
My wife says at my age, I am entitled to all the fun I can get.

BTW, what happened to you with the Makitas has happened to me also. That’s why it is a good idea to call the lady in the window covering department to use her phone to check for stock for Makitas. The price will have no meaning to her. But I do understand the need for “for eyes on” if you’re going to travel 50 miles.
At least the trip was VERY worth your while.

HD employees hide things and wait for the price to drop so they can buy them all cheap and resell them from home.
thats why those items are up on the overhead racks

I have been finding some Ryobi tools on sale lately.

About two weeks ago I got a Ryobi 18v leaf blower/trimmer combo pack with 2.6ah battery/charger for $60
I was actually looking for something like this so it was a win-win!

Yesterdays deal was the P551 miter saw for $25.03 (no battery included)

I thought that was a steal and told my friend, who then went to his HD to see what deals they had. He found the Ryobi 40v blower/12in trimmer combo pack with battery for $33! He snagged two of the kits to have an extra battery.

I’d take both of those if they were available in my area. The only Ryobi tool on clearance near me is the bench grinder.

Awesome deals Dave G I would have grabbed those deals too, even though I am full up with yard tools.

I was in that second HD today that had the 22 Makitas “way up high”
I asked the guy cutting some window blinds to check the price.
They still have the 20 I left there days ago after I took 2 AND they still “have no home”
NOBODY knows they are there!
(I had a young kid pull the 2 for me as he walked by that night)

I know I shouldn’t get my hopes up for a further discount in the future and resulting credit to my card for the price lowering.
I have waited out this kind of stuff before only to see the price go back up.
Besides that Milwaukee 9.0AH pack and charger with free Sawsall, I saw this too.

They had quite a few on display, but today they were all gone.
