TK's Emisar D4 review

+1 that was my favorite as well.

the D1 looks like it has great spill

although it looks like the camera changed the exposure

unless that one is out of sequence and was earlier in the evening

Too bad I can’t try out my aspire batteries, I think there’s something wrong with my 18350 tube, the light works great with the 18650 and 18500 tube…any suggestions ??

did you try turning it around?
the shorter threads go toward the head

I did try both ends, I also tried using a paper clip to see if maybe it wasn’t grounding properly

Could you post a picture or 2 showing the 18350 tube, particularly the ends?

Thanks

you might try putting the longer threads toward the head
and then trying the paperclip to bridge the battery base to the bare tube edge

it’s such a simple tube there must be a simple explanation
like the shorter threaded part not reaching deep enough?

MPOwer

I had that problem. I used some steel wool on the edges/ends, mine works fine now.

Interesting.

Just found out from reading on CPF about a hidden feature in the UI:

After you double-click while the light is on to jump to max turbo, you can double-click again to return to the previous brightness setting.

The long side worked with the paper clip, but not with the cap, if you look at the picture one side of the tube is thinner.

Well, that is strange, butt we know the short end is the problem.
I’m sure Mtn will make it right. Give them a call.

Sub’ing because how did I ever miss this thread. Will have to order one here shortly…

Just to clarify, what are the differences in the D4 and the D4vn models? Somewhere in the last 70 pages I am sure I missed some important information.

The stock D4 is available with XP-G2 (dome on), 219C, or XP-L HI emitters. Vinh’s mod uses dedomed XP-G2 emitters for increased throw.

Thank you for the quick answers

I figured that Vinh had done something before putting his name on it.

Is that a hidden feature? It’s in the UI diagram, and Hank found it important enough to add some text about it to his version of the diagram. Here’s the image shown at Intl-Outdoor’s product page for the D4:

I measured my D4vn just yesterday, if that helps.

Ran a thermal runtime test on the D1 with a 30Q. It held turbo for about 1:24 sec. Gradually stepped down all the way to about the 10 minute mark. At that point I think it was about as bright as the regulated to FET jump point. Then held it until around the 12 minute mark when it started to ramp up again. Love it! After 15 minutes it was warm to the touch and the 30Q was at 4.10V.

Also, not in the video but I compared it to one of my worklights, a Streamlight Stinger LED HP 350lm 56kcd, and the D1 seems to throw a little farther with a significantly wider hotspot.

Yes, it is real nice for evening /night uses(reason I say that, if used in the day in poor artificial light, it can do all kinds of things to 4000k beams. 5000k works better for me in these conditions). I have an EDC plus triple, that is also xp-g2 4000k and why I new I would love the D4 4000k. Also Malkoff uses the 4000k xpg2 for his N (neutral).

Can someone tell me if turbo mode can be memorized? So I can turn on with a single click.
