Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

Got mine last night here in Bulgaria. Love it! It is working perfectly so far. Great job guys! I just have to figure out how to switch between ramping and all the modes. I have the cheat sheet that came with it, which I’m sure is clear to many, but not quite for this guy. I might need a “diagram for dummies”.

I wonder if the inner edge of the tube grounding is somewhat sharp and should have been rounded a little bit.

Thanks! That’s what came in the box. Just trying to maneuver from ramping to modes, and then changing modes (with all the blinks). I’ll keep playing with it. Like learning an new operating system, just gotta play with it until you figure it out.

I received my two lights last week and finally got around to posting. First off, an enormously huge hats off to the Q8 crew!!! What an amazingly fun light! It’s bright as expected, but the fun factor of all of the setting is tremendous. Clearly, this light is not intended for the uninitiated, but the UI does a decent job of making setting changes painless (the instructions chart goes a long way toward making this true). Now on to my two samples:

Flashlight A:

  • Brightness seems close to spec to my eyes.
  • Screw heads under tail cap are all four hopelessly stripped.
  • There seems to be a poor fit between the tube and head as there is a “duck call” squeal when rotated against each other. Will try heavier DC 111 grease.
  • I did not check first, and a burr at the top edge of the tube battery cut outs sliced into the wrapper of one of my 30Qs.
  • Switch locator light works perfectly after at least an hour of use and heavy clicking while “playing” with the UI.
  • Finish looks pretty good

Flashlight B:

  • I would estimate brightness is a tad (maybe 20%) dimmer than light “A”, but that might be partially attributed to a slightly yellower tint.
  • The screw heads under the tailcap are mildly stripped, though still usable.
  • There are two gouges around the switch that have been not so gracefully painted over.
  • The fit between tube and head is as good as any light I own.
  • Out of the box, the switch light worked normally except for as a locator. However, when I enabled locator through the Advanced Config UI, it began to work perfectly. After that, the short cut worked as expected. Initially, I made not changes to the light. Out of the box, the locator setting was disabled.

Please no photobucket.
Should ban the use of that site.

Thanks! Good find!

Your photobucket is dead
Well I also vote for a ban of photobucket

OrangePeel, it reads like your B has had some adventures before they finally packed it and send it out.
Scratched switch cover ring and a setting different from default that is to be changed rather deep in config
Interestingly strange for sure.

I’d really like to see these photos, especially the painted gouges, and my “open image in new tab” trick isn’t working on yours. Could you reshare them somewhere that works, like imgur? Or if nothing else just give us a link directly to your Q8 photo album. I’m pretty sure we can still see the images on photobucket, just not embedded in other sites like this.

With this extension i see the photos.

Thanks

my Q8 arrived today, in good condition. switch led works now, but may fail we will see.
There is slight brightness difference between two switch leds.

Please don't ban PhotoBucket! I got a gazillion pics posted thru them, though I'm a paid subscription.

OrangePeel - that's some interesting issues there. Our of the 7 Q8's I've worked on so far, none had screws that I couldn't get out, though had many stripped screw heads - fortunately they strip them when tightening, so most can be un-tightened. For those that were stripped or I stripped in the CCW direction, I used a cutting wheel on a rotary tool to make a slot. I also got a Q8 with all 4 screw heads stripped on the tail PCB.

The burr at the edge of the battery tube is weird - also not seen in 9 Q8's, but did have that issue with the early prototypes they later seemed to fix. I filed it down.

Strange the factory settings were not in tact.

You seem to have most of all the known issues, some new ones, between those 2 lights - what awful bad luck.

The 20% and slightly yellower tint has me somewhat concerned. There's always variations within the same bin and tint, after all, it's just a range, but hope it's not a different tint altogether.

Alex64 - wow, that Chrome add-on worked for me! Fantastic!!

Oh I got some PMs of people asking if they should get a Q8 before the codes are no longer valid.
I can’t say yes or no to that.
The new ones should be good but the first 500 should have been good as well.
In case of issues we will work on a solution for each one.

When we got the codes a quantity of ~1750 was anticipated and the original plan was to make 2000 total to forfill the first demands.

~1700 are pre ordered and 2500 are made for sure.
Itbis already clear $99 is not the real price, and $44-$50 is it.
So if you want it for $40 and have us(me) deal with issues order the Q8 with the codes provided.
If you want to be 100% certain no issue can pop up, don’t buy a Q8, and well no flashlight for that matter, stick to buying bricks you handpick yourself for that seems to me the sole product no issues can come up with
If you want to read reports on how the soon to be shipped Q8 flashlights preform, wait for the reports and know there are Q8 to be sold after the groupbuy for a slightly higher price with the support of BLF already having a lot of tips how to better or fix it, and of course the customer support of the chosen webshops (Banggood or BGs AliExpress store Elfeland)

I can’t make a discission for you, but with the long time it took to get here and the 20 days all have had to pre order and seeing that ~97% of initial spoken for number is reached I do not feel the need to even ask for the codes to be working longer. A profit for the professional parties involved for the rest of the Q8 flashlights will only help me to get better solutions

Hi Miller,
I showed a Q8 to a collegue and he wants one desperately
Can I have a code for one more?
Issues no problem, I can fix anything. No issues, no problem either.

PM incoming

Thanks, ordered!

That one shows how the ramping works.

The video showing how the menu works is this one.
