ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

I finished my review about the Tekut Zero LK5276.

It even weights less than the Ganzo Firebird F759M:

The Ganzo Firebird F759M is only $7.99 on Gearbest 21% discount ends in 8 hours.

John.

Hmm, nice clean design!

What is the bottom knife in this photo?

Got a couple of nice Cima knives t’other day (at long last, haha).

Never had a “flax handle”, but I like the feel of it. It’s got a nice texture, not slippery.

The edge isn’t too sharp right out of the box, so I had to give it a touch-up.

Anyone ever experience a handle like that? Do they hold up over time, or potentially flake/chip/crumble/etc.?

Okay, dumb question…

The sheath comes with a pair of small holes at the end (you can see the pix at the GB link above), and a “shoelace” threaded through it and held together with one of those plastic squeeze’n’slide clamp-thingies on it. The “lace” isn’t very long at all, so if the sheath is hung on your belt, it’s not as if you’d wrap it under and around your thigh like a gunfighter to hold down the sheath in-place. So what’s it for? As far as I can tell, it just, well, dangles.

Does that handle feel like a cloth? Or is it more like a textured micarta?
As for the laces on the sheath, cool maybe?

Fasttech are on the ball lately, my C192 arrived in a record 9 days.
The blade length is 77mm and not the 80mm that FT stated. It came oily - that’s ok and gritty - not ok, it’ll need to be stripped to get all the grinding dust out from washers.
It has a strong slip joint which makes it difficult to open one handed - it certainly cannot be flicked open. No blade play and shaving sharp.
Overall for $12.86 I’m very pleased - especially as it’s UK legal

9 day`s is fast, waiting for my C192 to arrive, I ordered the white before i knew the black looked better so i cancelled and re-ordered.

UK legal is 76mm or under, I would not even push 75mm, never mind 77mm

John.

That’s a Voltron, I’ll review it soon.

Thanks, The VOLTRON V15 is on AliExpress for $11.99, Not for sale on GB or FT.

John.

76.2mm or 3 inches - but is that blade length or the length of the cutting edge which in the case of the C192 is 68mm? Actually, I don’t think anyone knows for sure - even the UK gov website is vague on the issue:

It’s illegal to:

  • sell a knife to anyone under 18, unless it has a folding blade 3 inches long (7.62 cm) or less
  • carry a knife in public without good reason, unless it has a folding blade with a cutting edge 3 inches long or less

It actually has a soft “clothy” feel to it. About the only thing I can think of would be those clipboards made of what seemed like compressed cardboard. Ie, it’s not just textured plastic, but actually has a softness to it. I was pleasantly surprised.

I notice the holes on quite many sheaths. No idea what to use it for. The fact that the included lace was so short really threw me.

Who knows… tie a ski-lift tag to it?

I know exactly what you mean with the clip board, thanks for the great explanation! That’s interesting, Does it absorb water I wonder?

Ohhh no!! Fake steel labelling, who would have thought!

(great knife channel btw)

Don`t tell me all those cheap D2 knives are only 420

The fake D2 knife in the video above was bought from GearBest, But you can buy the same knife from any of the Asian sellers.

EDIT: You can get a spectrometer gun to check what type of steel you knife is made from, only $30.000

John.

Hmm, didn’t try it yet.

I also have this knife (and the Y-start Jin-02 too) although I haven’t used them much, yet.

Great for the price but D2 steel sounded too good to be true :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe not 420-ish but more certainly 440A-ish… Böker has the same model listed in 440A here : https://www.boker.de/en/pocketknives/magnum-by-boker/classic-knives/b-und-b-01sc948

Come on! You can get a used XRF alloy analyzer for only $6000 -$7000 on Ebay!

I guess the blade steel of the Jin01 might be 9Cr18MoV or 8Cr… something. It’s still a great deal for $13 shipped. Atleast I like mine. (If I ordered a folder from the US the shipping alone would cost me more than $13.)

So what’s the conclusion of that test? (Native speakers correct me if I’m wrong pls.)

- The Jin01 costs only the fragment of that Viper.

- Their cutting performance is almost the same (as I understand).

  • The Jin01 is more rust resistant.
—-> The blade steel of the Jin01 can’t be D2. What a shame! What a bad knife! :person_facepalming:

Sure they are nice knives, even with a lesser steel. But I dont think I’ll ever put more than 30€ on a knife on Aliexpress because of this false steel tricks
