Emisar D1

Very cool. I got the XP-L HI V2 3A - Neutral white version. I’m sure I’ll love it

I like your tint, nice!. I am not sure if SST40 comes in neutral?

I have no idea, to be honest. Say hello to your neighbor Jon for me. I buy all my batteries from him.

I will.How do I identify you?!! Glenn from L.I. N.Y.?!

I will be going back tomorrow or Monday to get a few more VTC5A for this light.

Good question. I don’t use my real last name on here for security reasons. I think Glenn from Long Island, NY would work.

BTW, I’ve spoken to him on the phone several times. He’s always been extremely nice and willing to answer all my questions.

A boost driver won’t fit in this light, will it?

I’m not a modder, but I believe it is said several times that it’s not going to fit. The FET driver is really compact; I’ve seen a picture of it somewhere. It’s probably a silly thought, but perhaps you can put a larger driver in it combined with an 18500 cell (with an 18650 tube)?

That’s what I thought, thanks for confirmation. I guess a spacer, like the two DBCustom uses with 20700 would work as well.

So I have a request to Hank:
Please make a D1 variant with XHP35 HI.
If it is several mm longer, that’s fine, it will still be compact.
If it is more costly (I expect significantly more), that’s fine, the closest competitor would be Zebra which is much costlier anyway. And lacks your great UI. And lacks 18350 tube.

D1 with XHP35 HI would have:

  • more lumens, depending on the driver
  • wider beam
    • larger hotspot
    • more spill
    • overall, it would likely stop being a thrower and become a more general-purpose light
  • much higher efficiency in high modes, higher efficiency across the board
    • longer runtime in all modes, regardless if the runtime is limited by heat or battery capacity

Your Emisar lights really stand out of the crowd. I believe this one would too.

As great as the D1 is in its current form, I have not ordered one. An XHP35 HI variant would be interesting for me too.

Is XHP35 really worth it? Sounds like you would get similar performance simply swapping the emitter to dedomed SST40, without the need for a boost driver.

I personally would not be bothered by the difference in throw. I’m interested in a constant output of 1500~2000 lumens independent of cell voltage. But this (FET vs constant output) has been discussed on several occasion in the D4 thread.

It would result in a similar peak performance. Maybe even higher, depending on a driver…but way lower efficiency.
At turbo levels XHP35 may produce half the heat (assuming same output now) and run 3 times longer until it needs to step down.
Also, dedomed would have the same beam profile as the current light. Domed would be floodier.

Mine came today. Well worth the $40 plus $5 for the 18350 tube. Can’t wait to check it out tonight.

I got my green one yesterday (3A bin), and I am seriously fascinated by this light. Before I took it outside I spent ages playing around with the UI, and it is just not possible to appreciate the amount of work that must have gone into programming the driver software, before actually experiencing it. Especially as I thought that the ramping would happen a lot more quickly, which would have made it a lot more difficult to set the output to the right level. But so far it has been working really smoothly. The throw was also much better than what I thought would be possible with such a small reflector. But the light also got hot faster than expected.

Really happy with my purchase - I might even add the shorter battery tube when I order the D4, even though I can’t see it ever being more than a gimmick.

There has been a serious lack of comparative beamshots on the last several pages…….

Nice shots…

come on Emisar when’s that D1S coming out!

Yea……….and at what price?

I have a question. I notice my D1 flashes once when you reach minimum or maximum brightness while ramping. But it also flashes once at about half brightness while ramping. Is this normal?
