DQG Tiny 26650 III Review - 7x XP-G2 2,500lm Pocket rocket!

Got my DQG a couple days ago and I’m impressed. This is my first 26650 light. The output and size are quite nice and it feels great in the hand. I don’t think I’ll EDC it though…. 26650 cells are just too heavy for my pockets.

For modding, I suppose output could be significantly increased by replacing the XPG2s with XPL HIs. I don’t think I’ll bother though as the light is great as-is.

Have been looking at this one as a replacement to a Klarus G20 which I stupidly lost!

It looks like a great light, but the lack of USB charging and no strobe is a kind of pain.

Doesn’t look like anyone makes a 26650 cell with built-in USB charging yet either :frowning:

I think I’ll hold off for a while to find a G20 replacement, this one looks very close, but not enough to make me buy :\

Really don’t understand the desire for charging a Li-ion cell inside the light, worst possible way to do it, can’t monitor temperature and you’re trusting a very very cheap charging system to get it right. I’d much rather use the inexpensive XTar Rocket charger at 2A so it doesn’t take so long on the big cells. There are places that convenience is an inconvenience, using a cheap built in charger could be one of those places. Seems dangerous to me.

If you’re travelling with a backpack, carrying another item is inconvenient.

Convoy BD06 has built-in charging but it’s less then half as bright - not dim either at 1000 lumen.

However reflector and usb charging do add up on the light size. What’s really impressive with the DQG 26650 is it’s very compact size.

I’ ve seen small 18650 chargers powered by USB which also serve as powerbank.

Btw 18650 cells fit in the DQG (with adapter), even protected ones. Don’t know though whether cells with integrated charging fit.

Liitokala Lii100 - can often be found for less then $3.

If you’re not charging at 2A then overheating and explosion isn’t such a big risk

When I’m at home and I can, I charge my lights with the cells in a good quality charger. But the convenience of being able to charge from a USB socket is huge as I use my lights for camping/sailing/cycling and other outdoor activities where I don’t have access to a AC source of power.

Yeah, I already have a couple of BLF A6’s with USB chargeable UltraFire 18650’s in them, so the BD06 doesn’t really give me anything additional over those - I was really hoping for much brighter light using a 26550 to keep the runtime higher.

Since my original comment, I also noticed the Acebeam EC60 which seems to tick more of my boxes. Much throwier light too, which is kind of what I was missing with the G20. “only” 2000 lumens, but the throw looks much better.

I guess I’ll probably end up with one of each, such is the way with these cheapish lights, you end up collecting them all

So do you these protected keeppowers from aliexpress would work in turbo mode?

Don’t know for sure. This seems to be an older batch (Version 2015) and at least the 2014 version was too long for this light. 2016 should fit but don’t know for 2015. And they don’t say anything about the trip current (when protection kicks in), this should be 10 A which is sufficient.

Edit:
found some older posts which said the 2015 version is already the shorter one.

Thanks!

What is the head diameter?
33mm on Banggood.
38mm in the OP.

I approximately measured one of mine with a tape ruler… 37/38mm

This explains why after extensive searches I failed to find an optic like that…

Thanks patmurris.
I hope the weather is nice in Nice

37/38mm is the head OD. I haven’t measured the optic.

Rather cold - even for the season, but no snow on the coast so far… I hear the other parts of the country are freezing… :frowning:

I understand…it’s simply that a couple of months ago I spend a lot of time seeking a 7-led TIR optic that would have a diameter of 32 mm or less. I failed to find any. I guess the actual optic is like 34-36 mm. I may be able to find it….

The diameter of the optic is exactly 35 mm. I need one, mine is broken.
