This is my review of the Haikelite MT07S. The light was provided to my by BangGood in exchange for my honest opinion of this light as well as my true readings and measurements in comparison to what the manufacturer claims.

I have to be honest. This brand is totally new to me. I have not yet purchased any of their models and I have not used or even seen any of them in person.

After arrival.

Opening the box I noticed right away that it was much larger than I had expected. Not huge or even too large just bigger than I had pictured in my mind.

When I picked the light up for the first time I noticed that it was not thin cheap grade of aluminum. This is thick and heavy and very well machined. There is nothing cheap or dinky about this light at all.

The belt clip thing I still am not sure what it is used for or how a belt comes into play but, I do know you can use it to keep anything from damaging the tripod threads. I decided to leave it off.

It comes with 2 spare O-rings and a lanyard that at least in the package I received is only… well…. What almost looks like a shoestring. There is nothing to attach it as there would be wit most any other lanyard. As I said this could only be in my sample and it is something I can live with either way, I never use a lanyard. I can attach it without anything but the string itself if I wanted to with just some old fashion knots learned in my youth.

The light opens into three sections… Let me re-word that. 3 parts. The tail cap which allows you to insert the cells for use.

The battery compartment can be unscrewed from the head with the tail cap left on or off.

At the base of the head there is a decent sized retainer holding the board into place and at least for now I have decided not to open it up just yet. I am a little pushed for time tonight and when I do open it I do not like to hurry. I will come back and add any information and photos from that.

Thermal control Remove / Activation:MT07S comes with thermal control by default. If you want to remove thermal step-down , turn the moonlight mode on first and press the switch for 3 seconds to remove thermal control function. When you see a signal flash, it means the thermal control function has been removed, and MT07S will have no step down any more.

The thermal control function will recover when you cut off the power supply.

User Interface:

single click on; single click off

Long click to change modes ; Double click to Turbo ; Double click again to Strobe ;

With last mode memory

In off status a long click for 2 seconds to access moonlight mode ; another long click for 3 seconds to remove thermal control. Cut off the battery power to recover thermal control.

Lockout Function:

A single click followed by long click to lockout the switch. Repeat to unlock.

Power indication light: (LED indicator under the metal switch button)

My results:

I use my own lumen testing gear that has been calibrated and is continually updated and re-calibrated as needed. It is +/- 5% accuracy on the last 10 lights tested.

Using 4 30q cells matched as close as I could for resistance and all were purchased in the last two months.

That turbo output is correct for the NW version of this light.

I am actually kind of shocked as well as pleased. This is the first light in a long time that hit the numbers that close to what is claimed. I checked all levels twice and all are correct according to my equipment. My lumen tube has been calibrated using more known light sources now than I even keep up with so it is usually dead on and will tell on any company adding lumen.

My thoughts and remarks:

If you are expecting a small pocket sized light then you are in for a shock. This is by far not the largest light I’ve owned or tested but it is by no means a small light.

The best part of that is that the machining is excellent. For those of you that may not know the better stock you have to work with and larger thicker tolerances the better product you will turn out. Very tiny thin designs are much harder to machine and keep the quality up. Thin means more corssthreading potential and nothing to help when things heat up.

The knurling is just enough to keep a very good grip but not so much that it is uncomfortable.

The fins do their job very well, the light never became uncomfortable to hold from heat and I really pushed it very hard.

This light has plenty of metal to take the heat of the 4500 lumen output. I kept it working very hard on high and turbo for over an hour and a half and it was still comfortable to hold.

Adding a smooth reflector in this light is a home run. I knew the Cree XHP 70.2 could put out the light but even it need help throwing. The reflector took care of that with ease.

I hate the weather would not allow me to see just how far I could reach out in real life on camera video. We can all do the math and see what distance it should make. I like seeing how far it will go. First clear night, I will edit the video with added beam shots.

I knew very little about this company or this light when it arrived. I honestly did not think it would perform up to what was claimed.

When I am wrong I say I am. I was defiantly wrong about the MTO7S’s performance. I had read some very bad comments and remarks so I was already for the light to fail.

I loved being wrong.

I would like to see them add a case of some sort. This is a large light and really should be in a padded case when stored.

It would like to see the U.I. for Turbo and Strobe separated. What if I need strobe first. I still have to go through turbo to get to strobe. You need to be able to get to strobe right away from any mode or level you are in. This would be a simple change. Some users may like or want it the way it is but when I want or need strobe I want to get to it fast. Same for turbo when I need it I want it right away. The turbo double click is great but, if I am in high and I need strobe I have to double click twice. The first takes me to turbo the next to strobe.

I am still not sure what a belt claw is or what it does.

Lastly after looking through some online photos of the light it seems my lanyard was just missing some parts. Like I mentioned before I am sure this was isolated, it is just how may sample was when it arrived.

In closing:

I can honestly tell you that Haikelite has earned a new fan today. All the claims were pretty much dead on. Lumen output was just as stated. It throws extremely well, I am sorry I could not show just how well because of the rain.

I can honestly recommend to anyone interested in this light it is easily worth the selling price, worth a bit more compared to others like it.

I have already requested another Haikelite for my next review. I really hope it is decided to send it to me.

No... I didn't see a need to remove it. So far it works perfectly.

So you do not know if there is a dent under a mcpcb.

you can fill the center with solder blob to let heat transfer to the pill.

How is the dent or hole... almost looks like a hole kill the light?

Solder blob to anodised aluminium? Not easy task.
Hole is 1mm deep, no thermal paste, rough surface with deep turning tool marks.
I wonder if in MT07 there is improvement or not.

Fries the LED due to poor heat transfer.

^ It’s also possible that the “dent” is like a solder splatter on the led board resulting in very poor contact with the shelf. I can see something close to the positive wire that could be a solder splatter. This is much worse than the hole in the middle I think.

The hole from the rough pass drill, the rough surface during the facing of the MCPCB mounting surface and zero thermal grease, WOW! :person_facepalming:

Yeah I knew how or should say what the hole or indentation came from.

I'm wondering why that one is as large as it looks to be. And all that I have had a chance to see have had thermal grease.

Better looking silicone than in most I've seen though lol.

Either way it is an entirely different light.

When I go back to work Monday night I will put it in front of the thermal gun. See if I can get a look where the heat is transferring to. Provided there is time. It may take a couple of days depending on what is down when I go in.

Isn’t that hole there on purpose for stabilisation during machining? So all samples have that, and it’s not a machining defect?

It’s a defect in the sense that it shouldn’t be there if properly made. I don’t know the exact processes, but the proper set of steps results in a flat shelf allowing the entirety of the led mcpcb to make contact with the shelf.

Having some 25% of the mcpcb not making contact in the most critical area of a heavily driven LED is Not good.

Yes true. I do wonder whether this centre hole is present in Haikelite’s CAD drawings. Perhaps it’s not there at all, and the manufacturer just did this for production reasons without consulting Haikelite…

Almost looks like when it started it was too deep then corrected quickly.

Surely someone is not turning all these manually.

I have to admit that this light really surprised me.

I expected from the research I had done prior to it's arrival that this was going to be a tough review.

Once I noticed that I had to search for negative things to point out I had a blast just playing with the light.

Is it the greatest light on earth.... Of course not... But is it worth the price for what you get (at least for sure what my sample is)? Yes...

It totally is and I would purchase this light. With the sales and coupon codes making the price even less I may stock up a few.

I have several co-workers that see lights I have from time to time during testing and they almost always ask where to get one. Once they find they need to order online they shy away. LOL if I have some on hand that I got a good price on... Well I think you can see my point.

I am glad you got something from the information. I can promise you that at least my sample so far is trouble free and is as advertised in lumen count.
