It is funny how when someone asks me for a flashlight for general use, that the requirements are completely different from the average flashoholic.
In this case I need a flashlight that will be tossed into a box together with an extension cord, a roll of duct tape etc. Quite a few different people will be messing with it, so there is a risk of someone taking it. So here are the requirements:
*less than $10 shipped
*works on multiple AA alkaline cell because it needs some runtime
*200 lumen minimum, much more ok, but not needed
*unattractive looking
*robust, it should work (it is ok if it needs some service for it to work reliably), one mode is fine. But the classic high-almosthigh-strobe with terrible PWM is also perfect!
The Zanflare sounds great, and a good coupon Trevi! Bought one.
That is very cheap, which coupon? (EDIT: I read your edit)(EDIT II: I do not see 9.99, just 16.99, what did I miss?). I think for the use of the OP it is too fancy with not enough runtime, but for that price I buy one anyway
I posted quick so you can get on that deal (they tend to sell out quickly), before realizing that it would be surprising without the edit. I couldn’t believe it either before checking out to see if the coupon worked.
I couldn’t resist for that price either, so ‘buy it’ was pressed! :person_facepalming:
What a shame. Someone just posted on that (EDIT: the Gearbest deal) thread asking to get the coupon working for another country. Perhaps that can be done for NL too.
Hope you have done your math. Alkalines have such a high internal resistance that, even for an AA, a 1A discharge causes it to crumble (see it in HKJ's comparator), delivering just ≈1Ah of capacity with an average discharge voltage barely above 1V. This is just a bit above 2W of power input into the driver for a 2AA flashlight, it'll be hard for the emitter to even receive 700mA of driving current this way and that is presuming the usage of an ultra-efficient driver.
Driving flashlights with alkaline cells is usually a bad idea unless for very low powered ones and/or with lots of cells. Philistine people needs to understand this.
