Low-cost copper pills, spacers, optics, drop-ins (Updated 23/10/2022))

My P60’s are press fit, I use a delrin rod that I drilled a hole in the middle of to clear the spring, to push, press, tap out the pill with. Maybe a PVC tubing of the right diameter should work also?

A flashlight head ? Maybe for triple

I don’t think it’s just a head. If it is, I guess there must be some extra explanation.
There’s an unthreaded area where one puts something, kept with a retaining ring.
Then there are 2 sets of different threads.
Then….hard to tell. Is it narrowing down further?
So there are 3 different elements joined with this thing…

Or maybe the smaller threads are pure jpeg artefact?

Don’t think so, they are clearly visible in the large image. It does look like a head and the threads like retaining ring threads for a driver. Then I suspect the ring actually goes on the other end, to hold the optic, not as pictured. But the replacement head theory was brought up before and not acknowledged so we must be missing something.

maybe a replacement head for a p60 with a screw in pill? just throwing out an idea to keep this going…

If it’s P60 then what would the retaining ring be for?

If it was a driver retaining ring, then the driver would block access to the threads, making the head impossible to connect with the body.

I thought that it was a bezel and not a retaining ring

Maybe we’re looking at the business end of the head? Maybe it’s a lantern conversion?

You beat me to that

AWESOME !!!

That is amazing. Is onboard charging still supported with that setup?

And I need to fix the heat transfer with mine. It remains distressingly cool to the touch even on turbo, which I think just means the inside is broiling itself. That foil looks like a good idea.

Q8 parts progress:
Extended height positive driver rings - will be ready soon.
1.5mm thick brass tail board - machining will be ready in a month. Searching proper way for some coating that will protect board from extra solder and specify place where springs should be placed. No simple ways to do this. :frowning:
12x led kit - does anyone need it when MF-01 is available? - aluminium sample #1 will be ready soon, aluminium sample #2 in work, thinking about copper version, thinking about optics holder (upper part) coating, trit slots etc.

A 12x mcpcb? That’d be great if it only requires one pair of wires, and if it’s direct thermal path like Noctigon mcpcb’s. Obviously copper is preferred, but I’d be okay with aluminum if it’s thick and direct thermal path.

No, just regular 4x 3xp boards.
Hank wants $18 for one bare m43 pcb, boost driver could probably cost $30 and this two parts would make Q8 mod too expensive.
In my opinion, four single-die leds is little less than 4x high-drain cells with Q8 driver can feed. So my kit (if it will be ever made) will be defenetly made to use with stock driver.

Any ideas?
I can try to order most cheap thin fr4 boards (same size as tail pcb but with holes at spring base places), so customer would be able to use it as pattern while soldering springs. But this will increase cost by few $.
Another way, I will make a more solid template to be able to solder springs myself. But I still dont see proper source to order them.

Yeah, it would certainly be a nice mod but it will still be a fairly expensive one once everything is added up (MCPCBs, LEDs, your parts, optics). I would not go for copper as the Q8 is already quite heavy but perhaps others would.

No use for a tail PCB as I’ve bypassed it directly to the tube. So it’s only a spring holder now with no electrical purpose.

All tips were given in this post.

I received the ordered parts today, remarkably well packaged, great overall experince. I can’t wait to try them, thank you!
