Iāve been tempted by a few Sofirn lights, but after reading about their ā3800mAhā AA cell itās going to be a while before I can trust the brand.
I donāt have this light, but from reading the web page, I think the combination of the following two āfeaturesā make for a frustrating UI:
The light always comes on in high
Double click for strobe
Iām guessing there is some amount of time you have to stay in high before clicking again to get to M and then to L. Seems like you would bump into strobe if you clicked too fast. I guess if you always intend to turn on the light in high then it is a good deal. But the strobe ābooby trapā may get you if you want to quickly jump through the brightness levels to get down to low.
It is not āvisibleā to the eyes (at least mine :D), but it does have PWM in all modes through a camera! I canāt post pictures of it, as the driver wire unsoldered yesterday and I didnāt solder it back yet!
About throw or flood, it has more or less the 2, being more floody with an hotspot!
For me, the + on this light is the body, as it is ready to be beaten, it is thick aluminium. It works well with AA Ni-MH and unprotected Sanyo 14500. The other components are good as well! I received 2 of these lights and despite they had the same specs, on has a more yellow tint, while the other was more white to rosy! Not bad, but not pure NW as well.
The UIā¦well, it was said and I agree, not my kind! Always turn ON on Highā¦ :confounded:
I guess Sofirn tried to correct this UI in their new lights, SF14 and SP10A, although I miss a ML mode! I have both lights on the way and I hope to compare them soon, also with this SF10 and the Lumintop Tool AA !
Much professional than me SP10A and SF14, the new arrival AA flashlight, seems much power and better design, anyway, the price of SF10 very good, as well as the build
Thanks MascaratumB, it is good enough that the PWM can not be seen by eye. I want to make it into a little lantern. 0.5, 10, 100, 180 are all good modes for a lantern and the mode order is not important for that. A low annoying PWM would spoil it so Iām glad it is higher than that.
Ordered one!
