- I don’t like the “infinity” modes of the TH20 or similar because it’s hard to know what setting you’re on and how long your battery will last. Would ideally like clicky modes where I’d get something like: firefly, 10-20lumens for camp tasks, 50-70 lumens for hiking, and a high mode (don’t really care how high).
- Is floody vs spotty
Under $30 w/ coupon
Some options I’m looking at:
- Skilhunt H15 seems reasonable but needs a coupon for $25ish… Modes with a normal AA are 3, 50 (8.5hrs), 135, 215
- Manker E03H - don’t like the stupid plastic diffuser
Fenix HL23 - 3, 50 (4-5hrs), 150 modes
I’m also not opposed to buying any right-angle light and a separate headband.
I don’t see the H15 available anywhere, do you think it will become available again? if I’m missing somewhere it’s available please post up a link so I can buy it
The diffuser can easily be removed from the E03H if that’s the only issue you have with it…I kinda like it comes with a red and green diffuser too, and that you can get it in with the 219 if you want. I can only find one non english youtube video for it, is that because they aren’t given away like candy for reviews like other flashlights?
And if you are open to just a regular flashlight that can clip to the brim of a cap, then also take a look at Utorch UT01… currently on sale for $9.99 with coupon.
I haven't seem anything like that available. I was looking for a neutral white tint aa headlamp as well. I didn't know if I'd like the ramping, infinity mode either. If you think about it though getting used to it and getting to know your runtimes shouldn't be that hard. We would have heard people complaining about it and I haven't heard about it. I was considering the Manker e03h nichia 219c but since its so new and like notanotherhobby said there aren't any English YouTube videos yet. So we really haven't seen it in action from people who know flashlights and headlamps. Maybe I'll pick up a Manker e03h nichia down the road once its proven and reliable. The Fenix HL23 is far less powerful and its runtime are not even as good, and its not nw. The skilhunt h15 seems ok but its not cheap right now. I just picked up two Th20 nw with coupon for $23.99 each.
Break the bank and get the best. http://Zebralight.com The H5xx AA series. Some can use 14500’s and some not. I have the H600Fd (18650), and have yet to find better or more practical headlamp.
I have a Skilhunt H15 and for the most part, I like it, HOWEVER, here are some of the things I don’t care for:
UI - To turn it off, you first have to medium press (1/2 sec) which puts it in red flashy beacon mode, then long press to off. Or turn the tail cap.
Size-wise, it’s less than a centimeter shorter than my Nitecore HC30 and just ever so slightly smaller in diameter. So I’m giving up lumens and run time primarily for AA compatibility.
Doesn’t really offer a deep pocket carry option. The clip is reversible but there’s only one groove for it and it’s in the middle of the light.
I’m looking at the Manker, which looks like it’s smaller and lighter. My biggest beef with this light is that it doesn’t offer multi-mode support in 14500. I believe if you toss in a 14500, the light runs direct drive/turbo mode only. Second issue that I have with it is that with AA batteries it only runs 3 minutes on turbo before stepping down.
