Are we talking about pocket rockets or pocket Prius ?!
Come on, if it doesn’t burn my fingertips in less than a minute it’s tame :-p
EDIT : oh BTW, I consider the S-mini a pocket rocket and in the same way a practical EDC.
D4 with short tube.
Flashlight aholics dream last night, the power went out prepping to go trick or treating. Handed out lights to everyone. The two smallest kids got a Thrunite TN-12 and a generic “1,000” lumen POS with zoom (I call it a POS, but after I fixed its issues, it’s been the longest lasting light I own, lol). So those two lights are instantly on high bouncing all over the house and outside. They are practically useless. Walk in a room with the D4 and set it down on the tail cap and it’ll light up the whole room. Outside, just nice wide light. amazing. Turbo on my dark street was lit up both sides of the street nicely.
My most used light is still a Convoy triple XP-L. I have a D4, and the UI and output is amazing, but the Convoy has a pocket clip. Oh no, I just realized I’ve become one of those pocket clip people.
Hahaha is that the final level “the pocket clip people”?
I already accomplished Titanium fetish, ui freak and tint snob. But still not quite ready for pocket clip people, so D4 is my choice. I would kill for a titanium D4, not practical, but who wants that in a pocket rocket.
I am sure it is. I am a bit different because I have enough EDC’s and I have learned recently that these Pocket Rockets are NOT good for my Nightly trail hikes,Primarily because I like MAX output with long run times and they can get too hot too quickly!
Check these pics from last night!! My TK61vn V4. Not the best light for night photos but kind of funny!
The D4 ramps down to a bit over 600 lumen, about the same output that an S2+ can maintain over time. The D4 has the option to not start at maximum output (it is difficult, I know), in that case it behaves not unlike a S2+, probably a bit more efficient.
If I had to choose just one, it’d be the Emisar D4. But I’m also a huge fan of the Jaxman E2L; super-simple interface, and it’s the only light I have in that form-factor that seems able to hold its max output of 900-ish lumens indefinitely w/o stepping down or becoming too hot. Very nice beam, and a great walking light. Not quite a rocket in terms of max output compared to others, but the fact that it can maintain its max makes it kinda special.
I’m a fan of my Convoy S2 (non+) with the deep SMO reflector, 3A driven XP-G2, and Convoy clip. Has a nicely defined hotspot with decent throw for such an easily pocketable light. This tends to be my wintertime EDC.
I was thinking about Nitecore TM03 with single 18650 that puts out 2800 lumens. Until I learned about its battery is like $20 a piece and rewrap+ special circuit in Panasonic… and learned the Emisar D4… (with short tunes available) now I heard there is this Jetbeam Th20 that has no reviews yet, and claims to be 3000+ lumens… also on single 18650.
I had my mind on the Astrolux S42 for sometime because of its USB recharable function. But the D4 seems to be taking my mind over slowly… it’s all down to the MAX run time that I am debating now.
Now… if you guys can afford 2 or 3, what would be your choise?
