ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

I got a kind of “California Sun & Surf’in Flipper”, because the story says that the name and design of the Kizer Ki4483 Eliminator 2
is somehow inspired by the sound of the Eliminators The Eliminators - El Borracho Whatever that means, it is a pretty good knife anyway.

passing the customs a damned good deal.

Nice knife MAC, love the blade but the handle is not grippy enough for me.

I want a Kershaw Grinder, It`s like £25/$33 in the UK, and only $16 in the US , It only has an 5cr15m blade but i love the shape.

I ordered one of those ""GANZO Firebird FB7603" for GB on sale myself, Make me sick i cannot carry in public, I have this teeny under 2" blade all steel flipper as my new EDC.

Handy free parcel tracking service, sends you free email updates if you will, seems to show more detail than other trackers.

I have 3 being tracked at the moment.

Disclaimer: I am not a knife guy, i know almost nothing about them….nevertheless i do want one for my camping escapades.

I do have one foldable i carry with me on my belt whenever i am in the woods.

Every now and then i take a hatchet to it to make kindling off of bigger logs. I would prefer a foldable, with thick enough of a spine on it that it can take some hatchet-to spine contact.

If i do that, is the better option a non-foldable More-type of knife? Ganzo?

I would want to stay below $30. Can you also recommend a good fire steel? (not too hard of a steel) I’m planning on using the spine of the knife to make sparks, not using a separate striker.

Any good suggestions?

Obviously, a fixed blade is the better option for this type of tasks, but if I would have to pick a folder below $30, I would pick the Ganzo G720.
Thick blade stock, very comfortable in hand and can take some decent beating. It can be found on Gearbest or Fastech for $20.

There was a post about a budget version a few days ago. https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/48119

I have gotten a similar one from eBay for $2-3 shipped. They seem to work just as well as any US branded version. Most likely, some US brands get them from China anyway, and just slap on a logo (or not).

I have used a Cold Steel Kukri ( the cheap one ) to baton some split oak . I can process it enough so that I don’t have to scrounge around for kindling .
It’s not a folder , but way better to baton with .
These kukris are almost indestructable .

A long while ago, I think it was Harbor Freight that had machetes for sale for like 5bux a pop, so I stocked up. Rough unfinished wooden handles, but sand it smooth then stain/varnish it and it looks nice. The blade’s pretty sturdy, as long as you don’t try to chop through a chain-link fence or anything. Canvas sheath, too.

I went through the yard cutting through weeds and vines, and it held up nicely.

Might want to check Amazon and other joints for a “disposable” machete like that.

If you want something from Ontario Knife or the like, expect to pay the price. But something made of Chinese Mystery Metal can probably be had fairly inexpensively. Metal usually trumps wood, so it shouldn’t go dull too quickly, and it has enough heft to slog through naughty plant-life with a vengeance.

I hate this thread!!! :rage:

I just spent $15 on that Sweet CF/Satin Firebird!!!

Thanks for the headsup Isti242! :+1:

You’re welcome!
The CF - satin combo is hard to resist although the handle of the G10 version is more grippy.

Does the G720 come with a 35 degree edge as standard? Not liking that so much, otherwise a great looking knife

i decided i need a folder AND a non-folder:

https://www.amazon.com/Hultafors-Knives-Expedition-Knife/dp/B06WLNY639/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1509972779&sr=8-1&keywords=hultafors+ok4&dpID=41L4uvgPdYL&preST=*SX300_QL70*&dpSrc=srch

Havent decided between the G720 and the little smaller srm 910+

Carbon handle would be great!

I would really not use any folder, pivots and locking mechanisms are not designed for such tasks. However, if you don’t mind eventually ruining a budget knife, the above mentioned G720 is a very good choice. I have one and it is solid.
But pardon my ignorance, why would you need to do that in the first place if you carry a hatchet?

I’ve done the same thing, used a knife to split kindling off of a small log. It’s just a little bit easier to place the knife and tap back of the spine to cut exactly where you want as opposed to using a hatchet which doesn’t lend itself to that same purpose very well. If you’re swinging the hatchet, it’s less accurate than placing the knife exactly where you want it. If you are trying to place the hatchet, the wide tall blade is harder to control.

Yeah, carbon fiber suits the 910+ pretty well, I guess I’ll make another scale for a co-worker’s 9104 when he finally decides to buy one

Yep, it’s photophucket, but there’s the Photobucket Hotlink Fix. It’s available for Firefox and Chrome
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/photobucket-fix/

Yeah what Sprinkles said.

I will use the Hulta for spine-whacking and the folder for edc

Anybody knife if this type of knife lock is legal in the UK, A pin on the tongue drops into a hole on the blade pivot when it is fully closed and full open, But only requires a little pressure to disengage the lock.

John.

But only for the newest versions which are massive resource hogs.

Better?

Perfect balance.
