Convoy s2+ with biscotti driver

I mean back out of the screen on the browser itself, not through an in-site command.

Yes, exactly. When you don’t complete step 3, Simon already has an ID of the items on your cart to use as reference.

Thanks, I did not know that. :+1:

Anytime!

Is there any convoy or similar with all these modes (0.1 - 1 - 10 - 20 - 35 - 50 - 100)in one group. The biscotti seems to be missing 20% when in combination with the other modes.

It’s not “missing”, it was left out on purpose by TK. There’s far too little visible difference between 10 and 20, 20 and 35, and 35 and 50 to justify them being all present.

What you said is true when in flashlight mode, but not when in lantern mode.

Sorry if I ask a newbie question, but…

Has the new driver for some Convoy lights (S2+, C8) any other changes, than new firmware (Biscotti)? I mean, is it possible to run it using only 1 of the x (3-8) pieces of 7135 regulator, or it is still using all of them at the lowest modes (e.g. 0.1% and 1%) as well?

If I would like to use low Vf emitters in Convoy S2+ lights, do I have any driver choice with better efficiency, than using x pieces of 7135 regulator.
(These would be for bike lights, I would like to have a good set of low to mid-range levels, nothing above 2A, and no DD - sorry if I off this thread a bit.)

The driver is still single channel, meaning it runs all 7135 chips at the same time. If you only want 2 A maximum, just limit the number of 7135 chips and you should be fine - otherwise you’ll have to swap in a driver with more channels.

is there any option to change the strobe mode for 10 Hz? the biscotti driver made, a crap from ideal light as it was the S2 with the old driver (
everything about this crappy issue with strobe is here Review with X-ray image: Convoy S2+ Desert Tan/Sandy Brown
is there any option to fix it?

If you really want the extremely niche 10Hz for light painting or whatever, your only option is swapping the driver back to 3/5.

I bet some programmer can easily change Biscotti firmware modes to have different strobes in a modegroup with any blinking speed you like

Lots of info here on S2’s.
A good walkabout light for some.
But really. A little powerful for what he says he wants,
Indoors. toys. kids use.
Personally I’d go a Astrolux AO1 or similar.
3 levels, more than enough power for indoors.
It’s the one I use. in conjunction with a BLF 348 and AAA.
They both run AAA. with option of Li-Ion 10440 for extra power.
Then you can use S2+ for external work with latest driver/LED in there.

I have other ones here too. No Name. 6in by 1\2 in side sw. Stainless case.
Built in battery, charge with phone charger,
gives around 45/50 mins per.
with a perfect round beam. They were a batch of ten for $2.70 ea. Del.
or individually.
Had for yrs. Occasionally there’s a dicky sw.
Just drop it in bin (I do). In 20 I’ve had one so far.
The ones with grey plastic collar round lens end
are a better switch than the metal collar ones.

Just an alternative.
Oh it has a strap/loop on tail end.
I hang mine on wardrobe door near my hand as I get up.
Kids and women love them for night and looking round Comp desk etc.

Simon should/could try fix this crappy strobe in new biscotti and rename it V3

If i’m not mistaked it can be changed in the biscotti firmware(stobe, police strobe, ramdom strobe). To be sure you can ask Toykeeper. But then you have to re-flash the driver or probably you can ask simon from convoy to make some flaslight you that.

yes, i found it but looking for a person who could reflash my biscotti flashlights
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~toykeeper/flashlight-firmware/trunk/files/head:/ToyKeeper/bistro/biscotti/

I flashed some myself(last weekend i calibrated one a6-blf driver with a battcheck way off and made some changes in a nanjg 105c with biscotti) it’s easy enough, just follow some tutorial( like this one AVR Drivers )
You need to have:

  • the parts: USB ISP programmer + SOIC 8 clip,
  • the software: AVRdude and a compiler to make the new HEX file(i use the all in one Atmel Studio 7 for windows ) of course you also need a pc/laptop

PS: using the Atmel Studio is not always easy, need to select to optimize for size in some compilations, and some have difficulties getting the Usbasp to work with Atmel Studio and have use the AVRdude to send the new HEX to the driver.

It appears nothing is wrong the the strobe in the Biscotti firmware & Ui. It is certainly not “crappy” as you suggest.

It appears it just does not meet ’your’ needs. And maybe a few other less vocal people for photography purposes???

As has been said… use the old driver or reprogram the new one. It seems there is nothing for “Simon to fix”. It ain’t broken……

I will repeat because I am of the same opinion according to Review with X-ray image: Convoy S2+ Desert Tan/Sandy Brown

so the huge community of people who most often uses this mode in the flashlight creatively

according to your suggestions…

it is not so easy to reflash the driver especially if you must cut one leg to unblock the memory. besides, you need to buy a programmer, get a little programming and look for firmware ready to modify. for most common users, this is not an option.
the same with old driver - you have to buy it and change, it’s easier but this old driver is a step back because it has memory blink (it’s also annoying with light painting), it has much less useful modes (especially low and moon) and as i remember it has only blinking warning against excessive discharge (Biscotti has cut off the power so you will not damage the cell when you leave the flashlight turned on).

what are the advantages of this police strobe? maybe its fun for some child but after all you can play as policeman with a variable bike mode or SOS if you need a real warning mode.
so it’s crappy step back with this Biscotti police strobe because S2 was close to the perfect flashlight with wide applications. large market of light painters was waiting hopefully looking at the new driver to have more modes and strobe without memory blink

no offence by my side

I just got a Convoy S2+ with Biscotti firmware. The Battery Check mode blinks 5 times, pauses, and blinks 5 times again, and does this over and over. What is the meaning of this?

I just upgraded one of my S2+ to the Biscotti driver for the SST-40 this weekend. It did the same thing to me, so I checked the voltage on the battery I was using and found it was 4.0V. According to Toykeeper’s manual for Biscotti:

This could occur due to the fact that the voltage measurements of ATTiny series microcontrollers is inaccurate, but rounding to 5V on a 4.0V battery is worse accuracy than I’ve heard of so far (I think it should be +/-0.2V).

Convoy’s driver supplier supposedly wrote their own version of Biscotti (at least that’s what they said when asked if they were complying with the license on Biscotti) and might not have implemented the same voltage check. Or it may be that the microcontroller used in Convoy’s driver is less accurate.

I will try to make some time to test it out more, unless someone beats me to it.
