Old Time Knife Porn ( grand Ma in knickerbockers )

When Marbles and Rough Rider brought out their Jumbo Trappers - I had to buy them …

The box is just a nice surface …

Really like that Schrade stockman (the one without the ducks!)

I just want to tell you that NOW I hate you for sure!!!

Well, I’m joking
very nice collection of american classic/traditional knives!

I would like to buy my first trapper, but I don’t know which one choose between a cheapy Rough Rider (just to try the pattern/form/type etc etc) or start from a high end Case (around 40$ for a simply yellow delrin handles + shipping cost + Vat/duty tax, so around 80$ for a poor italian knife amateur  )

Thank you!

I hate to tell you , these are the tip of the iceberg …

1st … (?)

Either the Rough Rider or Marbles should be fine for a first - I love the jumbo trappers … I cant remember which one ? But one of them made a double lock back jumbo trapper , if you can find that one !
Also there are the Ontario Rat knives ( 1 and 2 ) , quite a few knives that deserve collecting from China … CRKT comes to mind .
Look for CRKT on Ebay , I have 4 and all are good for the $$ . If you can find one - Enlan EL-08 … Enlan EL-06

I’ve always loved the “Barlow” style knives but oddly I haven’t had one in many years. I fell in love with an orange bone handled one by “Old Timer” and paid a little too much for it. 3 days later I lost it- heartbreak in a big way because I’ve never seen another. I’m given to understand that it was an extremely rare style with very few made which explains that.

The fancy blades of today do nothing for me. The old blade and knife shapes evolved over centuries and are much more useful IMHO. They’re optimized for a working life and the good brands make for a good friend who will be with you for years if you don;t lose it

Plenty of Barlow on FeeBay , but loosing a nice knife - Yeah !
Probably why I leave the good stuff in a box and just use the Chinese stuff … Enlan , SRM , they do the job .
But I do like the old knives ( really I do ) .
I can no longer afford to buy the old knives , the ones I have will just be escalating in Value beyond user $$ .
Probably quite a few will be collector items and command collector prices …
I have one that was valued at $500 half a decade ago or more , so wonder what it would be now ? ( Some knives have doubled in value in the last 2 years ) Double 500 = 1000 ( for just one knife )

Not sure how many Barlow I have , I know I have this one and the Kabar

Yes I know… :frowning:
There are a lot of beautyful old style’s knives around. Many many styles, many patterns…really too hard to buy a lot of them :weary:

Tomorrow I will put some photos of my very little collection (just 2 or 3). I have only chinese knives rght now, but now would like to buy only good traditional Usa knives.

Thank you!
I really like the shape of a jumbo trapper, and i really like the doubble lockback!
I have found only Moore Maker, on Ebay/Feebay, but they cost a lot of money (around 50/70$ + shipping/Vat etc etc). Or there are some old Camillus, but cost more. I saw some Marble jumbo trapper, very very very nice, but without lockback.

Oh yes , the More Maker Jumbo trapper Double Lock back … ( Some times I can hear it calling to me )
Last year I got the Remington Bowen Lock back ( small 1306 pattern semi custom ) for myself = Not Cheap ! Getting really hard to find , especially mint . ( So when I saw one , I just bit the bullet )
The More Maker is probably the only option for a double lock back trapper , unless you go Camillus 716 ( I have one ) which are now priced really high , too high to use me thinks . ( gone collector )
I would drop coin on the More maker if they were not asking $50 for postage … By the time you pay postage , get ripped on the currency conversion by Feebay , as well as US to AU your looking at $200 ozzi bananas .
Just a little rude !

Do some searches on D2 Knife , AUS8 knife , and you might be able to pick up a really nice knife that’s got bragging rights for $20 to $30 USD …

$12 USD + Free shipping …

I recommend trolling Ebay from time to time .
Not sure just how carried away I got , and not sure whats going to make it through Customs …
This one should be fine …

Bids are high it’s not Deee-Tooo steel

Speaking of old knife patterns, I’m in the mood for it lately, and a bit tired of chinese copycats.

Don’t have any barlows or trappers yet, but some sodbusters (yes the imperial one is chinacrap)

D2 = ??

Yeah , Im not expecting D2 , hopefully something useful …
Sodbusters , don’t think I have a single one …
