I dont see simple ways to make outer ring. If inner is enough to improve safety, I can make them.
Inner hole in mine Q8 stock ring is elliptical :zipper_mouth_face: from 20.0 to 20.5mm.

Mine looks circular and is barely outside the black line on the driver. Don’t have a caliper to check properly.
The widest I can spread the cells apart at the top is about 9mm. So any ring 15mm and up would offer enough protection (3mm overlap with the cell) if well centered.
I would like to buy 2 copper spacers for the Eagle Eye X6 and 1 copper spacer for the Convoy S2+.
Can I get 2 S2+ triple pills, the one with the stock retainer ring.

So…it definitely looks like a head. One set of threads screws battery tube, the other - the pill. There is probably the third one for the bezel. But there were ‘head’ guesses before…
Added: though I don’t understand why the pill needs different threading, so the above is probably wrong….
Maybe a quad led head for s2+ ? 
I will say a complete head for a triple setup .
Possibly a heatsink before fins are added, but it looks like the beginning of a crenelated bezel for the S2+, useful for self defense.
It’s the shortest most edc’able DIY (18350/16340) quad with crenelated bezel in the world!

I’m going to go with electromagnet. I’ve really wanted a pocket electromagnet.
Perhaps its a heating device to make something hot or to discharge the battery.
The other Idea I have, It could be a pocket Laterna with down-light in tailstand.
