Astrolux MF03 - new pictures + video

I was thinking no vote needed. If all are 12V leds, then we just pick our option for 7*XHP70.2+1*XHP35 HI or 8*XHP35 HI or buy both.

He was actually suggesting 8 x 70.2. 3 with a deep reflector and 5 with a shallow reflector. I used 7 in my example so it would compare better to the Imalent light.

I seriously don’t think we have any say in this companies business. Maybe freeme can suggest software changes to make the modes better spaced, but that’s about it. This isn’t a BLF designed light.

About the 2 options you posted, are those realistic?

I think the DX80 can do turbo for 5 minutes (?) and is about 30,000 lumen. Does anyone know what it’s candela is? Is it close to 250kcd?

How would you get 16,000 lumen and 600kcd? 8 xhp35 at 2k lumen each and shallow little reflectors? Would that actually produce that distance?

Lumen wise they are all feasible, no doubt about that.
I know 250kcd and 600kcd are tough. I think it all depends on the reflector design. Since they are still at prototype stage, I hope reflector dimension and flashlight size are still not finalized.
DX80 hit around 100kcd although some members measured 140kcd I believe.

You could be on to something. The MF-01 fins certainly resemble those on the SC01. Being that both brands’ lights are more budget friendly, it wouldn’t surprise me if some designers and engineers are contractors and bounce from company to company.

Only 100 kcd to 140kcd? Even with shallow little smo reflectors I doubt you would ever hit 30k lumen and 250kcd. You need to greatly increase the head diameter to get bigger reflectors in there.

To keep the current head diameter, maybe use 7 little aspheric lenses like Led Lenser used in their X21R.2 beliw. Maybe even custom TIR lenses?

I really have no ideas for getting 16k lumen and 600kcd. That seems too difficult. Maybe a really big head like on the BLF GT, or bigger, with lots of medium sized reflectors?

I just realized the Imalent DX80 has 8 emitters, not 7. So I rewrote post 92 above. The numbers are more accurate now.

Wow, there you go. I see the RC40 has a 108mm head diameter in order to get some decent sized reflectors in there.

I don’t know what the head diameter of the MF03 is, but it looks pretty close in size.

265k is over 1,000 meters.

For comparison, my L6 hits 830 meters with about 8,500 lumen.

So for the modded RC40 to go only 200 meters more, but with about 3 times the output, it means the hotspot must be bigger than on my L6. That’s pretty awesome. It must have a ton more flood light as well. That is a light I think would sell better than what the MF03 seems to currently be.

We know it won’t use a battery pack, so that’s a plus (in my opinion).

In Maukka review, Acebeam X65 hits 587kcd with 10k lumens.
It is using 5*XHP35 HI.

I don’t mind it use battery pack for this kind of high power configuration. Without battery pack, it might be safe for experienced users, but it is not safe for inexperienced users.

I was looking at some reflector based throwers and I see the Acebeam X65vn that Skylumen sells has 5 xhp35, produces 11,000 lumen and does 640 lux or 1600 meters throw. It’s $550, though.

Official Acebeam specs are 12k lumen, 423kcd and 1300 meters throw.

I see he also has an RC40 modded with 70.2. This must be the one Newlumen mentioned. I bet it’s over $500 as well. Probably over $800 since it has a custom finish on it.

I wonder if a big head, 5 or 6 xhp35, reflector light is the way to go? Do a $200 copy of the Acebeam X65. Over 5k lumen for over an hour. No battery pack, just 8 individual cells. I wonder how that would sell?

Maybe Astrolux can make an MF04 based on this same MF03 body design. Just change the head design a little and change the driver. Idk, maybe the X65 design is too last year or maybe it would conflict with the MF03.

for me battey pack is terrible too, I love the freedom to get the battery that I want :smiley:

16A per emitter is awfully inefficient, but totally worth it for all that output as long as it has more reasonable modes beneath it. I’d love to see a driver that could handle all that power.

A 3 volt driver, like in the Q8, would need to handle 256 amps. That’s not gonna happen. If you ran it at 12v then you’d be at 64 amps. It would not surprise me if the next big mega light used 12 cells and ran them all in series to get the voltage up and the amperage down.

They would probably use multiple drivers built on a single pcb or even a stacked pcb. One mcu could control it, but you’d need multiple fets or coils, etc… Similar to how the MF01 used 3 or 4 drivers combined.

One important thing is to keep the amps down so you don’t fry the electrical traces on the pcb. They can only be built so thick.
