Best Single AA flashlight for 2017/18 ?

Utorch UT01 for me. Luckily I got one with no issues. Love the UI, love the button. Mi7 loses out because of cold tint and UI.

If I could change one thing though it would be a low in the range of firefly - 0.1 lumens. I find this level incredibly useful, to the point where I want a Thrunite T10 since it’s the only budget neutral firefly option out that I’m aware of

Sofirn=Sofire. Makes sense to me. :+1:
Thanks Barkuti.

I had a couple of older Thorfire TG06’s. They had awful PWM. So would not be surprised at all if the newer models did not and the real manufacture was Sofirn. Thanks Brian.

So many people have had problems with Utorch and Astrolux I shied away from ever purchasing. Manker brand sure looks like the before mentioned brands.

Or it could have been SoFirm, real typo possibility since ‘n’ is next to ‘m’ on keyboards. Maybe they felt the flashlight might feel Soo Firm in one’s hands.

Curiously, one light I don’t see many references here on the forum, is the BlitzWolf BW-ET1!

I thought it would get more “fans”, being a ‘different’ light that can take 1 AA/14500 and 2AA, with extension tube!

Yes, it’s an interesting light, and not bad for general use. On a 14500, it makes for a pretty good light. However, on either 1 or 2 AA, it suffers from mediocre output. On AA, it’s only 150 lumens max, and there’s a unnecessary pre-programmed ramp down to 75 lumens after just a couple of minutes.

On a 14500, its max is a more respectable 500 lumens, with a necessary ramp down to 250.

I do like that it comes with a diffuser and tail magnet. Those features give it some purpose, that a general EDC doesn’t have.

Okay, so you all have convinced me and twisted my rubber arm so I have an SF14 on the way to try out…should be here just after my AA Tool arrives. Then again, the Mi7 has had my attention for a while now as well…hmmmm.

The diseases is strong within! LOL

Reylight TiLan. beautifully made, runs on NiMH and 14500. Nice LED.

Thanks for such a detailed information WalkIntoTheLight!!! Indeed it seems a very nice flashlight, but didn’t know that details!
I also found some features to be interesting, but not enough to lead me to buy one. Although the shortcut to turbo is always a + for me and I miss it on my Manker E11.
Thanks for the info!! :+1:

Lumintop s new EDC 05 look s good

I have high hopes for the UT01 that I have on the mail, seems do be all I wan’t on an AA, hope it’s not a fault-prone unit
Also looking forward for the Sofirn AAs (10A and 12) and Tool AA

After reading this a second time I was a little bit like eh? I never noticed PWM in the TG06S so I tried to induce it in the lower modes. If I squint reeaal hard and pay super close attention I can see a tiny bit but at a high frequency that can hardly be noticed. I can always see it in other lights so I know I’m not just missing it.

Maybe older versions had it bad?

I’m also very suspicious that Sofirn and Thorfire are kissing cousins in some way. To many similarities and similar lights to not be affiliated in some way.

If you record it on video, it is pretty obvious. It doesn’t appear to be very high frequency. I’d never really noticed it either, but tend to use it more on high, than any other mode. The new model doesn’t have any, in any mode.

No love for the Acebeam M10?

No strobes? No blinkies at all? I think I do love it.

Honestly, haven’t heard of it before. Generally ain’t a fan of AA lights, but this one sounds nice.

You posted in the interest thread Acebeam started around this time last year. lol

The big knock is no NW emitter options

I probably did, but just don’t recall doing so.

Yeah, NW would be nice, ’though in the 4000Ks, not 5000Ks. Even 5000K is looking mighty “cool” to me after getting into WW. 4300K, 4500K, etc., would be quite nice!

If the new Thorfire tg06’s have no discernable PWM that proves Thorfire and Sofirn are good companies if they are one and the same. The most used single AA flashlights I own are Olight’s s15. Just ordered a new Olight S1A for just under $24.00 plus shipping at Olightstore. S15 and s1a are not budget flashlights. High quality they be. The single AA flashlights sold at SBflashlights under their brand name I think are made by Acebeam. The Acebeam M10 and the SB L10 are the same.

I have 2 NW Utorch UT01 that work just fine, at least with NiMH (I don’t have any 14500 to test them). I’m also waiting for a CW version to arrive.
I really like this light. Small, powerful on NiMH, good flood for close range work and decent reach/throw for an AA. If I was in need of more AA lights I wouldn’t think twice about getting one if I could get the $9.99 deals that have been going around lately.

Don’t know if you’re aware of this, but this flashlight has hidden features. You can program each light level with 1 of 3 different intensities. I think that the default moonlight mode can be made less bright if you use this feature. You also get access to a battery check mode when you unlock the hidden features.
