ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

My thoughts exactly, including the “slightly larger” part  .

I think 8Cr13MoV (or 8CR14) is pretty much on par with 12C27.

I can’t see the picture in niether Firefox, nor Chrome (Chrome’s extension doesn’t work).

Sorry, seems I have to get another filehoster.
Is this one working?

Usually I’d say the same about 8Cr… and 12C27 but I own a handful of 8Cr knives and they all dull pretty quickly, let it be the 710, my Kershaw Chill or so.
Also my Ganzo 7531-CF with 440C dulls as fast as a letter opener but maybe I got a lemon judging from the praise from other owners.

On the other hand my CRKT Swindle (grooved) and my SRM 910+ with 12C27 hold a fine edge much longer than their counterparts.
It’s not S35VN but for my needs it’s not far away.

I don’t only open envelopes with it, I cut EVA foam materials and rawhide with it and from all my knives only my bluepaper steel Kiridashi and my Spyderco Caly3 with zdp189 blade cut better, mainly due to the thin blade geometry.

I’ll try to thin my 910’s blade someday soon because I found out that the thumb lugs are screwed and one side is countered.

I can see the picture. And it looks sick! One 710 is on its way to me but it’s all black so I can’t mess with it that way. I ordered 9103 as well (for $9.55+shipping, who wouldn’t?) let’s hope it won’t be too big for my hands.
But I think we all agree that shrinked 910/9103 would be a perfect knife.

Yeah, I just missed that good price, maybe later.

First I felt like you about my 910+. I have S sized hands (glove size 8.5) and prefer knives from 18 to 20 cm opened.
The 910 is definitely the max size for me but I really like it and well, it feels like a “rel” knife, too.

Otherwise I like the Ontario RAT 2 but after the 910+ it’s feeling a bit small and the AUS 8 dulls same quickly as 8Cr13MoV…

(as you can see, this was my favourite material for a while)

You could also like the Shirogorov Neon, I have a Vespa S35VN version but the UltraLite variant should be fine as well (and cheaper, too).

My dream Sanrenmu would be the 7071 LTF-SZ in bigger size with ball bearings:

Why bigger?

It’s the perfect size for Chinese women

But yeah, 19-20cm open length with tip-up carry position, ball bearings that run best when dry like the 910 series, and I’d consider it.

I finished my review about the HX Outdoors Armorhide ZD-006 folders:

Hi All

Anyone know if there is a decent affordable knife out there designed along the lines of the Canadian Belt Knife? I know Cold Steel have their version, but that is not what I would call a budget category, and I would prefer traditional looking scales.

One of the genuine items I think:-

Something to steer clear of.

Smith’s PP1 Pocket Pal Multifunction Sharpener.

A friend at work had one and it seemed ok when I used it on an old Gerber I’ve had for 25 years or so. I ordered one from amzn last week and have found that it basically does the opposite of what it is supposed to do. Then I tried to return it today and found that it’s not eligible. Save your money for something else, this looks like it has it all in a neat little package but it’s garbage. I suppose if I were lost in the woods it might put some sort of edge on a knife but I might be better served looking for a nice smooth rock.

This is my review:

Bad quality control, entry level sharpener (at best). Avoid This One!

Course sharpener has a chip or something on left side. Seems to actually damage blades when used. Spent an hour with another sharpener getting blade back into shape. Left side of blade looked like I was trying to chop a brick in half.

Very glad I didn’t try this on one of my favorites first.

Steer clear of this one if you are even remotely serious about sharpening your knife.

Seems to be a (lower quality it seems) copy of the Lansky Blade Medic, which is a good sharpening tool for me (of course you have to use the carbide side carefully not to remove too much blade steel)

Haven’t tried the Lansky, is the ceramic fairly smooth? The smith’s feels like pumice compared to my old ceramic rods.

Yes, for me it is smooth, no problem.

merci

I just got one, it arroved along the Sanrenmu 7010. first impressions - built like a rock. Much heftier and wider than the 7010 (pictures don’t do the justice) and because of that blade feels a bit too short. Both are very difficult to open using the thumbstud, both have pretty stiff axis locks but in the 7056 it’s definitely way too stiff - I played with it for a couple of minutes and my finger hurts.

Open next to pictures and compare them side by side:

PS. Does anyone have both Ganzo FB7601/7603 and Sanrenmu 910/9103/9104?

You meant frame-lock I suppose.

I have the Ganzo FB7601 G10 & CF + all of those Sanrenmus.

Of course I meant frame lock and I wad reminding myself to wrote the right type instead of axis lock. Didn’t work out

Can you please make side by side picture with the 7601 ans 9103? Which one feels better/smaller in your hand?

Here you are! The SRM 9103 feels smaller in the hand (slightly smaller size and much thinner handle).
