This might help

Cheers guys now does anyone know where i can get this stuff (in store not online)

It or something equivalent should be available in your local computer shop.

An additional tip (taken from the flashlight section of the german messerforum.net): If there is the slightest possibility that you want to swap the LED again in the future, mix the adhesive with normal thermal compound (1:1). It still holds the LED securely on place but makes it much easier to remove it in the future. Has also the positive side effect that it takes longer for the glue to set (10 to 15 min) so you are not forced to center the LED in a hurry.

Cool thanks for that ill bare it in mind. i can get normal thermal compound easily but the adhesive type seems a lot harder to obtain.

In the past i've used some very expensive adhesive thermal conductive tape but not sure if this will be up to the job.

Another thought is the adhesive pads used for CPUs. They run a lot more power than an LED so the stuff will be adequate.

Cheers Don i actually have some of that stuff.

Should be ok with a star, but with bare led's it's perhaps acceptable for xr-e's, but not mc-e's or above. Thermal interface effective is mostly based on thickness, so make sure that tape is the thin type. Also note that cpu pads are not necessarily adhesive on both sides (or at all) as they're designed for something with a mechnical interface.
