Rediscovering my Panasonic BF-775

I was recently browsing around in the back of my shed and found my BF-775 that I received about 7 years ago. Despite not being touched for around about 4 years the batteries (4 D cells) were still working so I started playing around with it. I got to wondering if anyone else had ever heard or seen of this light because if you look it up on google almost nothing comes up.

The light as stated before runs on 4 D cells and is a bit like a slimmed down Dolphin (if you live in New Zealand or Australia you will know what I’m talking about). The light seems to be waterproof (I haven’t had the guts to test it) and despite only running an incandescent bulb it throws very nicely with a good hotspot and a wide but dim flood due to the massive smo reflector. It also has a nice substantial handle with a very satisfying toggle switch (this light is about as basic as it gets).

I posted another topic about the fact that despite running on 6v the bulb is rated for only 4.8v with the bulb being literally connected straight to the battery terminals when the switch is toggled on. Someone tried to explain it to me but I’m still a bit lost with how that works. I currently have an LED drop-in coming from aliexpress to replace the gutless incandescent bulb that it is currently running so ill post again when that arrives. I might look into modding the light in the future due to its dead simple construction and electronics.

So tell me if you guys have seen or even heard of this light before and if you have then comment on your experience with it.

I’ve never heard of it, but it’s a neat looking light.

unusual op bulb.
matsushita/panasonic makes lots of stuff for specific markets.
in japan known as national.
no surprise that nobody has seen this light here.

Haven’t heard of it either. When modding a torch like this you will probably have to add some mass to get rid of the heat from the led if you end up modding it. The reflector may not work that well for a led.

not sure i would do anything non reversible to that seeing its a rare one.
even a low power drop in would improve it a lot without hacking it up.
