ThorFire s70s

Received an early birthday gift from my brother, a ThorFire s70s.

Anyways to make this short. Wanted to see emitter and saw something strange, like two pieces of yellow tape, and one machine screw.??

And yes box was factory sealed. So assuming it’s brand new, not used.

Everything works, that’s the important part.

Just want to get you guys opinion.

This is stock light that looks like modded light. :person_facepalming:

If the tape is just on top, then it should be fine and it is for insulation to avoid short circuit with reflector.
That missing screw looks like can’t fit into that hole, so ThorFire decided to save it for other products. If the MCPCB is pushed down by reflector with gasket, then it should be fine too.

TF skimpin’ on fasteners again.
That was a Huge discussion in the Q8, again recently in the TF deals thread a few weeks ago for the TK4A

Tape is kapton tape. Basically a high temp insulating tape for electronics. I don’t have the S70 but I assume there is minimal clearance under the reflector for wires. TF has also been known to use what ever is available, maybe the reflector isn’t the same as original production?

That looks like kapton tape. Wouldn’t be concerned about that. Not sure I would be happy with only one screw.

Try PMing a link to this thread to BLF user “Thorfire”.

The reflector should push the LED board down on the shelf, it’ll be allright like this.
It’s annoying though… I would look for a screw that fits.
The kapton tape is a nice safety measure i.m.o., although it makes me wonder why they would think it’s necessary…

O, and a happy birthday to you.

Yep thats kapton tape. I use it a lot at work to add electrical insulation layer over PCBA traces on prototype builds.

I wouldn’t worry about the screw too much… as long as the reflector properly seats the MCPCB down and the emitter is centered in the reflector parabola.

Thnak you, so as someone mentioned I should share this thread to ThorFire? Well I was really surprised to see tape and one screw, I’ve owned other flashlights, but never seen anything like that before?

Maybe a smaller mcpcb board will fit? Yea there’s no way I can put another screw, but as mentioned, I’m sure reflector is pushing board done.
