Nitecore TIP Tropical Nichia 219c & Red LED Mod

A quick wee mod of the Nitecore TIP SS tropical version for you today.
I won’t be using this light for keychain carry so thought I could use the lanyard space for installing another LED, a flat top 5mm red with momentary switch. Why? - just because

I usually disassemble things when I get them to see what’s what and this light was fairly easy just unscrewing the eight screws except it does have some thermal glue at the front on the reflector housing attaching both halves of the shell but some light prying and it comes away.

Once opened I saw that the mod would be possible by hacking out some of the plastic central piece, removing the steel attachment rings and making a hole for the switch and LED.
Another thing I noticed was the lights very low resistance to water ingress so I have fully potted the internals with silicone and added thermal paste to the MCPCB and front housing along with copper tape running the length of the inner shells which may or may not help heat dissipation along the body a bit.

I was not too keen on the XP-G2’s cool white tint so installed a Nichia 219c 5000k emitter.
The momentary switch has a 100ohm resistor wired underneath it to tame the voltage for the 2.2v red LED and a kapton tape & silicone cover.
The clip has two 6mm x 2mm magnets installed.

The red LED has some cyan GITD resin behind it so acts as a locator when charged, along with some in the switch grooves.

I received this light as a gift from member Serp, thanks very much for that mate :+1:

Well done CRX. Does this mod come with a beeper?

Sure does

Very cool indeed!

This is a really slick mod, nice work. It even looks factory on the inside! :+1:

Nice work :+1:

Indeed superb work! I’ve got a TIP thats starting to act up on me from being dropped on its head too many times. So i guess i’ll have to mod it lol. I started to just fix the connections and pot it but might as well go all out!
