This is the second host I have lathed up but I admit I cheated a little bit. I did not make the pill or any retaining rings (all came from the parts bin).
It was intended to be edc sized and enough light to not suck the battery dry. In the end I think the low grade cell I have is limiting the power. I have not made allowance for O-rings, I figure it’ll probably never get wet. I would have liked it to have lock out because of the lighted tail cap but couldn’t figure a way to do that without removing the battery springs. Oh and I didn’t take too many pics during the machining. For now the led is an mtg2 with the phosphor stripped off because that’s all I have available right now. I will order another led but am holding off until after xmas so I don’t have to worry about delivery over the break.
I had to make the body again because I tried to neaten up the threading at one end and screwed it up big time (user error).
Original inspiration came from a light I saw on CPF a few years ago but I don’t remember who made it. It was brass and either AA or AAA with twisty tail switch.
Driver is a 2.4a laser driver but my little battery is certainly not capable of that and I suspect the output current will have dropped anyway because the driver is boosting more than it was designed for.
Hmm… that’d be a challenge. Would be cool if I could keep the lighted tail, somehow me thinks it would be easier without. How about if I used another striped lens for a button….
I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks for the inspiration Agro.
