[Modding] Astrolux MF01 --> OSH park NarsilM

I’m interested to see what output you get i ran mine last night and got 17800 lumens stepped down before 30s.I got 19000 last week i don’t know if it was because of the colder temps in workshop or just an anomally. This is probably my favorite light right now.

One thing has come up since the driver change. the springs in the carrier are not up to the task.My solder blobed vtc6’s will fall out now unless you hold them in.Anybody else had this problem. Mine are bypassed.

They should have bronze alloy springs, those usually conduct well and should not get hot especially when bridged

swap out for steel springs and 0.5mm² bypass, almost no current flow in the springs and they are a lot stiffer and more elastic than bronze springs

I checked springs after a run on turbo and springs are not hot they have just got more compressed with use.

Cool mod but over my head.

To me it looks like spaghetti. I keep thinking there has got to be a better way.

Too bad someone (the mfg) does not make the correct mcpcb so we can plug and play two parts instead of one and spaghetti.

Come to think of it this sounds like a group buy opportunity. have the mfg drop the better driver and make a new mcpcb for the emitters.

I am sure someone in the USA would make it for you, shipping to Germany would be a dealbreaker

I did the same mod and my carrier springs are also not happy, but I haven’t bypassed them yet. Likely gonna need to get new springs anyone know of a good source for new springs?

Mtn Elec might have the size you need. They are in US so shipping should be fast.

Bypassing the carrier springs will take care of the problem.My lumens jumped almost 2000 with carrier springs bypass.

Alright I’ll report back any gain from the bypass sometime today.

Would These suffice? They only have 4 springs so not a lot to choose from. Either these or the beryllium copper springs, but those are quite soft from what I hear.

I got 16,167 lumens after spring bypasses, but I didn’t top off the batteries after a few turbo runs. Ordered those springs too thanks Lexel. Always nice to have extras.

This thing is crazy now I can cook things with the amount of light it puts out.

Also the BLF GT code offers the double click to get full power while ramping is limited to 80%

This implemented in those lights may be useful to keep heat in control

Fresh batteries after bypass and I got a max of 17,360 in my shoebox! It doesn’t seem my springs are getting worse since the bypasses so that’s a good thing.
Also put together a little album to document my mod with some snowy beamshots in a wide open area.

What batteries are you running ?

For people who mod their lights , i would suggest VTC5A batteries , 30Q might have a hard time

True i actully got 19000 with fresh vtc5a batteries ,30q’s get around 17000 in my light .

I’m running Samsung 30Qs. I’m pretty happy with them and the set is already married. I have my 4 VTC5As in my Q8. The VTC5A only start to pull away from the 30Q past 7amps.
I’m quite content with the 17,000 as it’s fleeting and heats up noticeably faster on the fresh cells. The light will spend most of it’s time at less than half power. I may give it a brief run with the VTC5A just to see 19,000 pop up. Ohyeah, the VTC5A are shorter and I’m concerned about my sagged springs holding them in enough to not lose connection.

Has anyone ran this with a clamp meter to see what kind of amps it’s drawing?

Not with a FET driver. Lexel modded the carrier on a stock light and measured 16 amps. Iirc.
